Metroid was already pretty close to that kind of gruesome stuff, it's all over the lore in Prime 2. Actual gore and that kind of violent stuff would really give life to the game, and increase the sense of urgency.

They haven't made a good game since the studio was gutted and lost Itagaki and half the people who were part of the longstanding veteran studio. They had to employ a bunch of new people right out of college. All their games have been shit since the studio changed in 2008. They even managed to fuck up something as simple as Ninja Gaiden. They are explicitly newbie game designers employed under the facade of a veteran studio's brand name.

Occams razor applies here in that its more likely they're shit which explains why all their games have been shit, rather than one of their games might not have been shit if not for the single guest director who actually understood game design. They even managed to fuck up Ninja Gaiden Z and that was produced by Keiji Inafune, another veteran game designer.
KT destroyed the brand name of TeamNinja by not making a brand new studio out of the people who remained along with the new employees.
