No corridors at all. You can go anywhere you want. The best part about the game is that there's different starting locations so you can familiarize yourself with the map. While everything in the game is randomly generated, the locations aren't. So it's possible to try to plan routes.

You're completely free to wander around. There are multiple large areas and you have to find each one. You used to be able to just start wherever, but it's much more fun now. You generally want to build up supplies to survive but you can only carry so much when you go to the next area.

I pirated it and uninstalled it after about an hour. It's extremely dull because there's nothing to actually do other than pile on clothes and hoard unnecessary crap that you'll probably use once to open a crate full of socks or something. The only highlight was fighting some wolves, but that got real old after the first two encounters and just because a nuisance. There's a ton of apologetic posts defending the game in this thread that sound like they're either some SERIOUS asskissers or blatant shilling by the dev team.

Last time I booted it up I had horrible luck finding anything. I holed up inside the Ranger Station, trying to just get enough to survive before venturing out to go to places where the rifle usually spawns since the weather has been shit.

You can't start there anymore because of how OP it is. You have to start at the lake and make your way there. The path is also much longer than it used to be and you have to walk over a fallen log, which I didn't figure out for a good 2 hours after wasting a playthru trying to jump down the cliff like a moron.
I couldn't see what else to do so I started slowly walking down. At a certain point you just die from fall damage even if you don't fall.

This and the Forest are the only early access games I think are worth buying. The Forest gets updated every goddamn week and it is so much better than when I got it, I can barely call it the same game.

Same stuff it always has, just more of it. Lots of things to craft and making shit isn't as easy as it used to be. You now have to wait for intestines and skins to dry before you can use them in crafting, which is a cool feature.
You can actually get infections and diseases now and survival is a bit more complex. You also have to unlock each area and, given you can only carry so much, moving from place to place can be rough.
No storymode yet though.

maybe it's aesthetic and atmosphere that hooks more people, i personally love the aesthetic and the feeling of sheer loneliness and despair this thing can bring, but the gameplay is fairly similar to a skyrim mod i played a while ago and some other survival games
presentation is a fairly important part of a game, and a good presentation might bring more people in that stay not because the gameplay is original but because they have such a good experience with it that you stay for longer and longer
look at darkest dungeon for example, is a literal translation into videogame format of a simple tabletop RPG that relies mainly on d8 dice rolls and has randomly generated dungeons that you must explore to gather loot while risking your heroes - the premise is fairly simple, but the art style, the UI, the way the game is presented, and the narrator that screams lovecraft makes for a very good game experience
i personally love how despite being low-poly the game has a very good use of colors and balance of atmosphere
