The "committee" that's in charge fucks every AGDQ, the schedule was a month late causing extra expenses to everyone who's thinking of flying in.
No communication with the scene (even though they claim to be open and transparent). etc etc.
Mostly it's that the guys in charge are in way over their heads and don't have the discipline required, combined with the fact that the jewing of the money is now blatantly the main thing and not running different games.

They're going full Nazi mode, requiring everyone to be silent at all times. They're banning anything they deem as distracting, and putting people on the couch for the sake of making it look full, even if the runner doesn't know them. Leads to a lot of awkward moments like the infamous Caveman moment.
They won't even let people have Touhou plushes, something that's been at almost every GDQ event prior, even though it's just a shitty animu doll. I remember last AGDQ, during the Super Monkey Ball speedrun, the staff was yelling at people to be quiet, and stop having fun because they'd imitate the game's announcer. Geoff, the speedrunner, actually had to tell the people it was okay, and encourage them for a good five minutes or so that "we are here to have fun, not be serious."
Geoff's probably my favorite runner as a result. He even forked over $20 for every death he had.

Portal 2 team is 26th on the leaderboard, 5min behind 1st. In their defense the leaderboard has a lot of repeating names above them.
