I really like survival horror and I REALLY like Fatal Frame in particular. The bleak atmosphere and novel approach to combat really work for me. I'd also like to put ZombiU on my list since it does do some cool shit with the gamepad and the death mechanic, while ripped from Souls, is a great fit for a zombie game but it's just so aggressively mundane otherwise.

The "un-fun" part of W101 lasts about 15-30 minutes, right at the very start.
If you want to be spoonfed all the cool parts of the game right off the bat without having to fucking earn it then go play Fallout 4. It's more suited to someone of your tastes.
I just got my Skell license in XCX today, and that shit turns a pretty good game into a godlike game all the more -because- you have to earn it.

Exploration and environments are amazing. I think the combat is interesting and I loved the music (although it's divisive). I think the events in the story are pretty interesting.
There are obvious technical hiccups like bad textures, clipping and low resolution. The cutscenes are terribly paced with the silent protag. Item collecting quests are ridiculous if you don't look up locations (They should have been included in the game).
If you have a lot of time to sink into this and don't mind learning as you go it's great. The impetus to continue is straight exploration and gameplay, the story will rarely push you forward. I haven't played the first Chronicles so I don't know how the story compares, although I've heard X is dissaponting in that regard.
While I don't have a Wii U, I want one, and here are the games I'm interested in
