I like to think that after his time in Termina he continued searching for Navi. Nobody knows if he ever found her, but it's unlikely that he did. In the end, i like to think he was sat against a tree as he left the land of the living. Peaceful.

He definitely got back to Hyrule and more than likely settled down with Malon considering TP Links job in the beginning of the game. His regret over never passing down his skills manifested into the Heroes Shade after his death but I don't think that means he died in battle.
