There were other factors such as 6 fags having a massive chip on their shoulder due to 7's popularity. Anyways Amarant and Quina serve no purpose plot-wise. Battle-wise every character is viable since all of them have at least one cheap 9999 damage attack (in a game where nothing has more than 70k HP)

I'm just conflicted about 8. First time I played it I was a drooling retard and never understood junctions so my concept of getting stronger was to just level up which caused everything to slap my shit (I actually got to lvl 100). That was pretty cool because it actually forced me to cast magic, GF's, items, I used every single available resource and boss fights were actually challenging. Getting Odin and Bahamut felt like the greatest achievements in the world and killing Ultimecia was so satisfying after so many tries. Felt like a great game.
Then, I came back to the game a few years and junctioned the shit out of everything with no effort. Felt like a joke.
