I can say for sure it was the arcade, and narrow it down to those two games.
My first consoles were an atari, sega master system, and nes, purchased for me in that order. First rpg was phantasy star. First platformer was smb. First shooter was most likely duck hunter, or space harrier. First action rpg was zelda 2.
Special shout out to that obtuse as fuck indiana jones game on atari. Oh yeah, and qbert was fucking awesome. Is that a platformer or puzzle game though? If platformer, then it was my first before smb.

It was such serious fucking buisness, I studied Boxer replays, memorized builds, practiced APM, argued with people on forums and played it a fucking lot. I was B- on ICCUP.

It was always "gg" and generally your opponents would talk about strategy, people just enjoyed the game. I tried playing LoL, got a pretty high rank, but I just didn't care, everyone is a faggot and I stopped playing.
I tried SC2, but I just couldn't get into it.
