My college has both video game club and board game club.
Vidya club surprised me positively, the people there actually have a damn wide taste of games and we play both modern and old stuff of pretty much all genres. The only nagging problem is that there are couple of super-annoying turboautismos that kinda ruin the mood for everyone with their presence, but no-one really wants to shoo them off because they exactly haven't done anything *that* horrid that it would give others a valid reason to kick them away. Also, I guess that no-one is surprised if I say that it's full of STEMfags, kinda funny to be the only law student there.
Board game club is completely different, there are people from pretty much every faculty there and the gender ratio is around 50/50. At least it gives a nice way to spend dull weekends, as everyone there is quite enjoyable company.

There was a video game club at my campus for a while. It lasted about three months before they lost permission to use their club room because of how loud they were.
Most of the time they didn't play games. The main projector was usually used to stream anime that they torrented via campus wifi. There were groups of high school kids who would "sneak in" and play MTG. There were only 2-3 people who would regularly play games there, and they were all Meleefags who would play it on their laptops.
After they lost their room they moved to the cafeteria. Every day there's at least two tables filled with nerds playing cards and watching anime for hours.
The kicker?The club had a tiger-print set of hoody pajamas that they'd take turns wearing.

Freshman year it was full of elitist pricks.
Sophmore year it was dead
Junior year the President came back from a study abroad who was a super cool guy and membership skyrocketed with tons of cool peeps. We played a huge variety of shit like Mario Kart, Naruto games, Project M, Pokemon, etc. If you didn't feel like playing multiplayer you could still bring a laptop or a 3DS and just chill.
Then Smash 4 came along and dominated the club. I mean don't get me wrong I love Smash but it filtered out all the cool, nice people and just left elitist pricks and memers and it was the only thing anyone ever wanted to play after that. Again, I like Smash but I don't like playing with assholes who can't handle variety or welcoming new people that are actually fun to be around.
After that I left college and membership was handed off to a new President when the old one graduated. Wouldn't be surprised if it was still only Smashfags.

My college has a pretty chill Smash club. They hold biweekly tourneys of whatever game they feel like besides Brawl, the atmosphere is relaxed and the people there take care of themselves and are enjoyable to be around.

Turns out the teacher didn't give two shit and left us to our own devices, so we would play Jedi Outcast II and Half-Life in LAN everyday, with ~20 other kids.
I kind of miss it. At night I something still dream of this room with all the computer, I had never seen something like this and I thought that if I were to become rich someday, I'll get one room like this for all my friends
