I'll admit my adoration for Barry had me initially interested in Rev2, but it was actually fun to play and the creatures and areas felt like they were trying to be creepy with the assets they had to reuse. It was just creatures, weird locations, likable characters, and no goddamn enemies with guns. Sure I'm not fond of shoehorning co-op into the RE titles but at least in Rev 2 the characters were helpful in some ways, didn't steal ammo, and couldn't die due to their own stupid AI. They can die but not without some serious shit going down. Good balance of urgency and fun.

That was back when the series was actually survival horror instead of a generic action game with zombies. The fixed camera angles and limited ammunition played into that because you had to be careful with your ammunition and you couldn't just run blindly into a room because there were hoards of enemies that you couldn't initially see. That's what made the games scary back then.

That is an anti-hero. RE4 Ada considered herself the lead character with Leon as just a pawn who had to be tricked into thinking he was the hero of the story. She's working for "The Organisation", while also pretending to work for "The New Organisation", aka Albert Wesker. The answer may be similar to Ustanak. Ustanak was a failed C-Virus subject because it is incapable of regenerating and/or mutating in response to trauma. Hence the mechanical arm. Ustanak was basically unkillable unless its "heart" thing was ruptured. So if I had to guess, falling on the spike ruptured Simmon's "heart", finally killing him.
Carla is a bit odd, though. She dissolves into goo after "death" and then reforms as a massive, ship-swallowing monster. The game kinda skirts around how exactly she was "killed", since the ship sinking and exploding wasn't guaranteed to kill something like Carla, especially since she doesn't have a clear "heart".

In fairness, anon, before the patches, the QTEs in Leon's campaign were quite obnoxious. Also, the first 10 minutes shouldn't have been limited to walking. Let the player get a feel for the controls. Let them test out dodging and sliding and all that. If only RE6 were more moddable, we could have had mods that streamline some of the more obtrusive scripting in RE6 to make the game flow better. I've zero issue with story-heavy sections like Leon's intro, but removing the player's ability to run/dodge/do anything is bad.

This. There's a serious disconnect, unfortunately, between the overarching story Capcom had been building ever since the first game, and the type of story hardcore fans of those games want. I think that's why some hardcore fans are more supportive of a reboot, because they want to undo all the biotech progress made over the series like some sort of zombie sitcom. The Resident Evil series was never specifically about zombies. The gameplay of the original games was driven more by technical compromise than some sort of vision that the fans might agree with. That's why some fans are angry with coop, despite the fact RE1 was supposed to be a coop game.
