>>
>>321870738
Doesn't change the fact that you're forced to buy a 500GB drive first then a second, better drive to swap it with.

It's ridiculous that there isn't at least a 1TB option when buying the console. I'd gladly pay the $20 difference between them upfront than having to pay the full price of a 1TB drive later in addition.

you can already buy 1TB PS4's but there's literally no reason not to since you can buy a less storage PS4 for cheaper and then swap out the internal drive for a cheaper and better 1TB+ hard drive.
>>
The issue for me is preservation.

I can dig out any games for genesis or PS1 or any other old pre-seventh-gen game, and it'll be a full experience out o the box.

Let's say it's 20 years from now and I want to play one of my PS4 games. Not for multiplayer or anything like that, obviously, but I just want the full single player experience as intended. I can't. The servers are down. You will NEVER get the full experience.

Of course this isn't an issue for PC, but it will be for modern console games once the servers are eventually shut down.

I'm talking about games with mandatory day 1 patches, or even just updates that really fix/change the content. Think of all the games that are unfinished messes out-of-the-box that get patched later.

Now imagine playing these games in 20 years, when the servers are down and updates cannot be downloaded. You're stuck with the original v1.0 game that's a buggy unfinished mess. You'll never be able to get that 20GB update that fixes everything

In fact, for some games the fact that you don't have to update the game is a blessing.

Hmm no. You own the instance of the medium, not the data. And the lifespan is long enough for you to enjoy it while also having the viability of selling it off or preserving it long enough for you to cherish it.
>>
>>321875652
Who cares. Wow you won't be able to play a single player game when a weapon does like 5 damage less than it did before and update. Cry about it you faggot. Demon's Souls is dead as fuck and doesn't get any updates or patches, doesn't stop me from popping it in and playing it.
>>
>>321875412
No, because updates and patches circulate around the internet without being tied to a central service like with consoles. Once PS4's services get the boot, you won't be able to download patches. But on PC, you will always be able to find a website somewhere that is hosting the patches. I can break out decade old PC games and still find patches for them online.
>>
>>321875771
Are you an idiot? Do you honestly think all the games released now require patches to be playable? The only game that I -wish- got patched but didn't that I own is Witch and the Hundred Knight.

Games that have gamebreaking bugs have always existed and many of them are great games but the difference is... there was no patching available at all. So the "full" experience was the experience that included all those gamebreaking bugs so I find it stupid to argue that because you can't download patches you lose the "full" experience and the fucking ownership of the disc.

>>321875869
What? Vanquish doesn't have any patches as far as I remember.

No, no this makes perfect sense.
This object retardation and steam lionizing garbage like gone home and shilling so hard is an obvious ploy to sucker people into going full on steamless pc gaming.

No really.
By next year, the ability to put together a slim form factor pc with four usb ports on the front(to simulate a four player console)that is in everyway superior to both the ps4 and xb1 for less then 100 bucks will be the norm.

Steam boxes? What are those?

Looking at it, aside from bug fixes and stuff it has added content and some balance changes. (+ Expansion data). GOTY edition most likely is patched at 1.07, yeah?

Still, the game isn't something that actively needs a patch to be playable.

Only very few games actively have so many bugs and glitches that they are pretty much broken on release but somehow it has become a meme that all games need 10GB patches.

>Only very few games actively have so many bugs and glitches that they are pretty much broken on release but somehow it has become a meme that all games need 10GB patches.
The original anon's point was that you need 10+ GB patches in order to fully experience games.
Which is true.
>>
>>321871512

>>
>>321878494
Again, only very, very, very, very few games require that. And it's pretty silly to say "fully experience" when you're talking about a game that has EXPANSIONS and later updates adding extra content.

The only reason these additions are happening now is because it's possible. Before Gen 7 it didn't happen on consoles (beyond something like PS2 HDD for FFXI).

Were Diablo 2 patches which took long to download with connection speeds at the time ok? Warcraft? Any game with updates on PC?
>>
>>321878985
>Again, only very, very, very, very few games require that
Actually, I'd argue that the vast majority of non-indie games require updates and patches.
>Were Diablo 2 patches which took long to download with connection speeds at the time ok? Warcraft?
No, which is the point.
At the time you dealt with it on PC since those games were PC exclusive, not to mention the benefits of the platform outweighed the downsides.
Now that consoles have the downsides of PC gaming but not the benefits, what's the point?
