What makes it look bad to you? Well, besides zooming up on Warframe textures making them look shit. Plus they do good particle effects if only I had PhysX

A bad thing for the developer sure.

If a person wasn't happy with his game it's a good thing he can sell it, since the game wasn't fun for him and the developer doesn't deserve the money from that sale.
Selling his game to someone who wants the game helps him retain balance.

He has a point but used games are important on console where they aren't on PC, primarily because consoles are a closed ecosystem. On PC prices are brought down based on demand, on console they remain at full-price or barely discounted for pretty much forever, on PC you can pirate something if it's overpriced while on console you have to suck it up and accept your ass-fucking with a digital copy at full retail, or go buy a used copy. If the game is console-only and digital-only simultaneously you are pretty much fucked when it comes to a reasonably priced option even if the game has been out for years. This is even worse if the developer has forgot about the game and no longer promotes it, which means it doesn't show up in rare sales either, and worse still if the game is delisted. Take, for instance, Outrun Online Arcade, a perfect storm of everything wrong with a world where used games would not exist.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/OutRun_Online_Arcade
Want to play this game on PS3? You have to be a European who bought it between 2009-2010 otherwise you can go fuck yourself. Overall TB's perspective reeks of "I can't see outside my own little PC game bubble" and I don't know why he would weigh in on something that isn't made to protect him, because for the large part his market counterbalances that problem while the console one doesn't. Increasing publisher revenue streams should never come at the expense of the consumer.
>>
>>321862908
You've never been in a debate huh?

You're supposed to defend the beliefs you're arguing for regardless of how you feel about them. So if you take up the role of devil's advocate, say defending the Reich, you would cite all the advances that happened under Nazi Germany.

Once you choose, or are assigned a side, you defend that side with all of your knowledge and back it up with facts, not half ass it like you would with greentext, dictionary definitions, and HURR DURRs

He makes some good points, but there are still some things I disagree with him on. In the end, I find that stores like Gamestop really do take advantage of the game industry and profit off pushing used games onto consumers. I don't think used games should be completely obselete. However, I do beleive that games which require online servers or services beyond the original game should require an additional purchase to access that content. It'd encourage people more to buy a game new and support the developer rather than the retailer.

Yeah, I know they were a thing. I think that they were right to do that. Most people just saw it as another form of DLC, but it makes sense as to why company's would opt for it, since used games were costing them money.
>>
>>321865128
tb always says he likes short games like bastion/brothers/undertale so some 150h witcher experience probably is never going to rate super high for him anyway
>>
>>321864427
>I find that stores like Gamestop really do take advantage of the game industry and profit off pushing used games onto consumers
Stores like gamestop are no different than other stores where you can buy and sell used games. Stores like that have existed all the way through the 90's and it was fine. Sure it sucks a bit that when you sell a game, you don't get nearly the price you would if you sold it directly, but they need to make a profit. If you don't like that, there is ebay and amazon, and you'll make more money there. But in the end, these stores existing means games a more available to people. You could try to only buy used games directly from their original owners, but that narrows down your options a lot. With stores like gamestop existing, it means I can walk for 5 minutes from my home and enter a gamestop, find and buy the game I want, and be home within 15 minutes of leaving my house and play the game. It's good for the consumer. People harp on gamestop way too much. Gamestop is so successful, because the service they provide is good. I don't see anyone complaining about libraries.
>>
>>321859541
He probably doesn't defend used games because he plays on PC and you can't do that shit with PC games.
>>
>>321865164
People sell on shit. It's what happens in the real world. You don't have car manufacturers putting in extra charges so they can get a cut whenever a used car is sold on.

This shit only affects console gamers too since PC games are so cheap on steam.

I never liked used games, why pay 3$ less for someone else's scratched disc and give ll the profit to gamestop when you can get a brand new copy and support the developers.

>>321867871
I only sell trading cards, emotes, wallpaper and skins. Even then when I usually get them I can't sell them right away so I turn them into gems instead. I wouldn't want to sell my games unless I needed the money to eat or something, which I had to do with my DS games back in 2013. I mean other people have sold my stuff without my permission and my own mother coerced me to sell my Gamecube just so my abusive brother could get a PS2 and Madden 05, so I'm not really interested in selling anything of mine for the most part.

All I know about buying used games is that yes, it is better to buy older video games on GOG or Steam when possible, because otherwise you might not be able to get them to run at all because of either missing serials or manuals that are needed to bypass the DRM. I don't buy used games or older PC games though since most of them don't interest me.

When someone pirates a game, no sale is lost

When someone buys a used game, they are >literally going through all the motions of buying a physical product (ie. visiting a distributor, carrying out a financial transaction and receiving the product) but without the developer getting a single penny from it, which means it's undeniably a lost sale because even if the msrp is prohibitively high they'd still have bought it when the price dropped

Banning used game sales is dumb as shit because once you've bought something you should damn well be able to sell or give it away.

Used game stores, though - especially chains like Gamestop and GAME - are a blight on the industry. They force up prices by reselling because publishers are desperate to make up that lost business, they force them up some more with their 15-25% cut of new game sales, they've caused a breakdown in publisher-end user customer service (lol a refund? can't do that, only trade-in value (then we'll resell it)) and they're unduly influencing digital pricing because publishers need them for high street advertising purposes and hardware sales (oh you want us to put your cardboard cut-out and promotional material in our high street windows that everyone in town walks past? well you can match your digital sales to our price then so we're not losing sales :^)) They're also directly responsible for anti-consumer bullshit like season passes because if developers weren't constantly shitting themselves over mass reselling they wouldn't have to 'lock' customers into keeping their product with commitment spending.

With any luck publishers will start selling physical copies online for delivery at 20% cheaper than high street cost and pricing their digital downloads even lower so that the fuckers are driven out of business.

Semantics. The dev still gets no money from used games sales.

Same reason they care about piracy.

Selling a used game is blatantly worse than piracy in every single way
>>

Piracy means a lost sale for the company no matter what, trading in games to buy the companies newest game is not a lost sale.
>>
>>321865512
They have paid for access. The original purchase of the game included the price of server access.
The person using that server access is meaningless. Whether it's the person who made the original purchase or is the third guy to buy it used

It literally doesn't. There is 0 guarantee a pirate would ever have paid for the game.
>trading in games to buy the companies newest game is not a lost sale
It's a lost sale on the old game because someone will buy the used copy instead of a new one.

I was unable to pirate farcry 4 because no seeders. I have yet to buy the game, and never intend to.

Maybe however most people trade in games after a long time, I'm sure the boost in sales at launch due to used games helping people buy outweighs the minor lost sales months or years down the line.

>>321859541
alright so I just watched it and his point seems to be that used games and retail stores that push for the sale of used games are the issue. They're the issue because

A. used games have higher profit margins(so retailers like gamestop are more inclined to push for a used sale over new), but 0% of it goes to the dev who still works on the game post-release through patches and keeping multiplayer servers running

B. retailers force devs to charge the same for digital, or else they'll refuse to sell it at all in their retail stores

C. the reason people buy used is because they're saving money, his point is that if we remove used games that new copies/digital copies will become much cheaper than used games

D. No other entertainment medium works like this. Movies/music have multiple forms of revenue such as theatres, concerts, radio, renting, etc. The only way to make money off a game is the game itself or DLC.

E. a bonus point, retailers are the ones pushing for the retail exclusive DLC else they refuse to sell the game. Stores like gamestop are bad for the gaming industry essentially.

perfectly valid argument. A great argument actually.

>"No, people shouldn't be allowed to buy used games and sell games they own. Just think of the poor companies you're not giving money to!"

This motherfucker is so dense, holy fuck.
>>
>>321874826
Servers cost nothing to run, and patches are small and dont require too many man hours.

DLC is how devs make post-launch income, and thats already digital-only.
>>
>>321875405
his proposal is that there is no need for used games because sure you save 5 bucks buying used, but if we're all digital you'll be saving more than just 5 dollars. Better for the industry and cheaper for the consumer.

and I can agree with that, I bought Fallout 4 on launch for $60 CAD by going digital, it would have been $90 after tax at EB Games.

>guys this guy is bad lets watch more of his content to generate him more mony hehehe

>>321868907
Just saying, upon reading that, Oracle could have legally refused service for that software due to the courts definition of transfer of ownership.
>>
>>321875676
>devs will lower the price of digital games if we remove the sale of used games

That's very naive. There's nothing actually keeping them from keeping the price equal to its physical counterpart.

Pre-order bonuses, deluxe editions, day-one editions, etc. exist as a means of enticing consumers to buy the product full price. That is how you properly combat used games, by giving the consumer more bang for their buck or a reward for buying full price.

Consumers shouldn't bend over for companies and hope they'll be gentle.
>>
>>321876560
>There's nothing actually keeping them from keeping the price equal to its physical counterpart.

well yeah I guess that's true for consoles since there's no competition. You buy it from XBL on XB1, you buy it from PSN on PS4. Pricing is much more competitive on PC due to the vast amount of places you can get the game. I bought it from Greenmangaming and saved $30 on release, GMG is a verified seller so Bethesda still saw that money.

Another point he forgot to bring up is the fact that devs only ever see about half the money from a physical new copy sold due to shipping and the retail cut. Digital is the future, it's going to happen on consoles eventually.
>>
>>321874386
Well, you're a cunt too, so kill yourself.
>>
>>321877017
Then somebody will decide to be the only guys in the market to provide physical copies and get all the extra business.

much like physical PC games, they'll simply be install discs with a code inside to activate the game.

At that point in the future, digital will be so normalized that most devs/pubs won't bother with making retail releases at all. Look at the music industry, look at the movie/tv industry, look at PC, look at mobile. None of them rely on physical copies, and they don't need to. Consoles are still in a transitional period, but it's inevitable.
