Do you prefer customizable protagonists or pre-defined protagonists in video games?
Pre defined. Because if I have the option for customization I just make the most ridiculous looking nigger. Then I can't take the game seriously
Depends on the game, obviously. If the game has an intricate story, then pre-defined. If the game's story doesn't matter, then customizable.
Generally pre-defined but fully customizeable is fine too.
The only thing I really can't stand is the half-assed inbetween shit that games like Fallout 4 and Mass Effect do. If you give me the freedom to make my own character, I want complete control. I never want my created character forced to feel emotions during events that I don't think they should feel.
Either give me a completely pre-written protagonist with character motivations and development or give me a completely blank slate so that I can insert my own. Don't half-ass it.

This.
If a game has a very specific and character driven story, then customizable characters outside of clothing/armor wouldn't be the best idea, but it isn't a bad idea.
The latter is just so people can self insert themselves into the environment.
>>321829470
I agree with this
>>321829115
Customization, every time.
Like any real RPG fan should, unlike the teenage, new-age trash posting in this thread.
Open world - Customisable
Shitty boring linear story movie - who cares anyway
Pre defined, Xenoblade Chronicles X has made me realize how much I prefer having a character that has a history with the games world rather than some self insert bullshit.
>>321829470
I think it depends on more than that. More specifically, it depends on what the player's role is in the story. If the player is looked at as the main driving force, then customizable is good. If the player is considered just one member of a party, then pre-defined is fine.
>>321829115
Customizable = you are the hero
Pre-defined = you are a hero
>>321829115
I prefer stock characters because the other characters they interact with have more of a connection with them. They don't have to rely on generic titles "the lone wanderer" "the currier" "blue" but games like mass effect found a way to work by just referring to your characters last name "shepard"

Predefined with customisable outfits and weapons

N-no homo.

see we were doing good until you faggots decided to start shitting up the thread. don't tell me not to get mad.
you fucking ruin most threads on this site, and everything devolves into a bunch of you talking about feminine penises and no homo.
fuck you. stop killing /v/

Bahahaha fucking fags

You're just mad because some anons are so eloquent that you can't beat their feminine dicks argument.
>>321831232
>femenine penises
Those are trap-fags and I hate those idiots. I only like manly men like op's pic.
>>321831232
>stop killing /v/
how long have you been here?
>>321829115
In general Pre-defined is better.
Character creation often falls into the same trap as procedural level generation, "we couldn't be assed to design a game feature, so make it yourself"
>>321831232
>feminine penis
Masculine penises are 1000x better
>>321829115
Depends on the game.
>>321831232
If it makes you feel any better:
I prefer customizable characters in RPGs where they actually give the player a decent amount of control over their character's backstory and how they would interact in the world, like Fallout (barring 4, of course).
But I think pre-defined characters are more suited for games that have basically already scripted out how the character acts and who they are, like Alien: Isolation.
post more public boners.
>>321829115
Customizable unless the protag is already a cute girl. I still like customization regardless though.
Complete creative control.
If the game is going to have a narrative, and the player is supposed to be a critical part, I would prefer that the player character be a predefined person who can actually add something.
Overall I don't care for customizable characters anyway, it's never been something that I ever put much thought into. I just pick a default, or fiddle with a couple settings and then that's it.
I guess I'll draw a difference using real examples
In Skyrim, or really any Elder Scrolls, the narrative falls flat because the player character is a role, not a character. You are the Dragonborn, you are the Hero of Kvatch, etc. You can do and say what you want, which is fine for an RPG, but it all leads to the same end, and is generally an unsatisfying narrative arc.
It doesn't really feel like anything has happened to you as a character. Being the Dragonborn is no different at the end of the game as it is in the beginning.
In Kingdom Hearts χ, the Player is given a generic role and is more or less an audience member as much as the player controlling him/her is. Player is simply a proxy by which the player experiences the story of the game, and is kind of only tangentially involved.
I think that if a character must be customizable, or even silent, then something like KHχ is more engaging and narratively competent.
custom. video game writers are generally bottom barrel fantasy shelf tier so I'd rather have a blank canvas.

This
When it comes to dating sim elements, do u all prefer persona 3 and up style where they don't talk much outside of dialogue options
or like awakening or danganronpa's school life mode where the MC is heavily preset and will converse through whatever base personality he has
>>321829115
Predefined if the protagonist has a good story and charismatic character like john Marston from rdr
>>321829115
Anyone else here that wants to see them fuck?
>>321829115
>you can see his dick in almost full detail with balls included
Pre-defined because customization doesn't work alongside full voice acting.
>dudes having sex with other dudes
>>321829115
I like predefined unless the predefined is not a white male.
Then I like customized.

Hi /pol/
>>321829115
Somewhere along th eline /v/ decided create-a-character is shit and for loser who need to self insert despite being paramount in role-playing games since the beginning. Not surprising since they replace the character they would have created with another dashing hero (Geralt, Big Boss)

I prefer predefined because you are rarely given the chance to make big buff guys in a creator.
