I hope soon.
Low poly models with high res textures is my fetish.
People always post this mockup of a low poly version of the elite Knight set from Dark Souls and it makes me hard as a rock everytime I see it.
Do any of you have it saved by any chance?

The only reason so many indie games do low-res 2D is because it takes very little effort with today's development tools.

And even then, so many of the ones claiming to be ~retro~ don't even match the retro aesthetic because even THAT is too much effort.

Maybe it's the character proportions and colour palette but this reminds me of Windwaker.
However, that could just be what they were going for and I could be an idiot.
At any rate, I love the look of it.

My bad, I don't know much about the technicalities of modeling or texturing, they just look more clean than games of that generation.

Most games had their graphics designed with the DS's resolution in mind and look about the same. I'm surprised that there's anything else that looks as nice as that Idolmaster game.

We already have the right Unity shaders for that. I'd love to give it a try, but the game has to be the perfect one to warrant the art style. Survival Horror makes the most sense, but I love the platformers of that era.

Color and shading is what makes up everything. Having high-poly models doesn't mean shit if the colors/textures are shit.

True. I really like the PS1 Spyro games because they have good art design which worked with the PS1's limitations.
