I beat them all for the first time just last month, and had a great time! I'd recommend doing the same, and play in release order. You can emulate the 1st one with the BGB emulator.

I'd say it's good. It is a metroidvania with some similarities to WarioLand games.
I've beaten it in three days, so the game is a tad short, even if you go for 100% completition. Still pretty solid, power ups are great and the level design is good as well.
Once you get Risky's cannon, you won't need almost anything else. Don't waste monster milk with smaller bosses, save them for the final one.
Oh, the girls are all 10/10. Best part of the game.
