Really fun game, it's got that platinum charm that makes me want to replay it multiple times to git gudder. I'm pretty bummed that it seems the prospect of a sequel got canned because an extra year or so to build on what they already had with the first would have let the game go from a B+/A- to an A+ for sure.

True but with all the unlocks and extra difficulties it was designed to be played multiple times. With Revengeance mode even the enemy placement changes. DMC games and almost all Platinum games have high replayability.

Fun game beginning to end.
IMO it's one of the best Platinum games because it shows some restraint.
Don't get me wrong, it's batshit crazy, but its tame by Platinum standards since it needs to fit in the MG canon.
I could never get into Bayonetta because of this reason, it crosses a very fine threshold with its craziness that it's so crazy that it feels like nothing matters, nothing is at stake.

It's too short to be more fun than the main campaign, but playing as Sam itself was fucking great. Really felt like DMC3 Vergil in a sense, in that he had less moves overall than Raiden but more powerful, and figuring out how he works was a lot of fun.

It was meant to tell Raiden's story between 2 and 4. Becoming a cyborg in Area 51. Saving Sunny Emmerich and working for EVA and eventually obtaining Big Boss' body.
Not sure about the order but I dreamt once that you'd meet Sunny in VR in a Ghost in the Shell type scene while Raiden's being cyborg-ized. I was sad to wake up.

That doesn't even really make sense, since its essentially just a long campaign level where you play as Jetstream Sam instead of Raiden.

Mediocre railroaded action game with low replay value due to how the difficulties are poorly designed and the combat system is so shallow. The bosses are extremely simple and underwhelming, all enemies are fought the same way, basically it's all style over substance
I got it for cheap so at least I can't say I regret buying it but it's not worth more than $10
