Realize Final Fantasy appeals mostly to an aged audience that's trucking into their 30's. The fanbase had a massive drop off once 10 came out. A lot of the heat of FF came with FF7. 8/9 didn't launch as far, 10 was a standard deviation. 11 flopped, 12 and 13 appealed to no one. And I guess they still make them now?

FF12 sold over 5 million, and that's not including the re-release with the changed job system. 7 and 8 was also during the golden age of JRPGs, on one of the most popular consoles of all time. The genre is basically dead to the point where people are selling tens of thousands of copies and calling it a huge success, and Square is still somehow peddling millions to people with their worst entries.
