Take your time and pick the mobs off one at a time. Keep an eye on your inventory for an item that gives insight. Once you get that use it and you can start trading blood for levels. There's some decent armoe in the sewers. Took me an hour or two to get the hang of things but hang in there OP.
>>
>>321732694
Im going full retard just rushing in i figured out the blood echoes thing and got better armor and im still getting rekt.
>>
>>321732104
Yeah, the street leading up to the big bonfire is a pretty big pain in the ass for so early in the game, with the tons of enemies everywhere.

If you really want to progress you can do the following: Creep up along that street as best you can, and then sprint across, up the stairs, and through a gate. Hopefully none are still chasing you. Directly ahead there will be a door with an orange lantern outside. To the left is some boxes. Smash them to reveal a hole in the fence. Drop down and take a left. Keep going up stairs and through the first floor of the house and you'll wind up at a gate next to Gilbert. You can then use that shortcut whenever.
>>
>>321733065
Thanks for the advice anon. I knew these games were tough but i cant believe im stuck on the first fucking level.
>>
Use the pebbles and your brain OP.

If you can't fight them all at once, maybe you shouldn't.

Are you trying to make it harder for him?
>>
While the axe is great and better long term, I think the saw cleaver is great for a first attempt just for being faster, so your timing doesn't need to be as precise before you've been able to relly git gud
>>
Learn parry Windows. Dodge. Don't lock onto bosses. Pour points into Skill and your viscerals will do ungodly damage. Whirligig is the broken weapon ever.

That's pretty much all you need to know. Have fun m8.
>>
>>321734151
>Threaded Cane

Holy fuck you want him to hate this game don't you?
>>
These games are not difficult, the enemies hit hard, but as soon as you learn to dodge properly it's pretty easy. The problem is that you can never truly let your guard down, as even the easiest of enemies can kill you if you let them hit their combos without countering with a pistol or dodging.

I'm playing through it for the first time as well right now, but I have plenty of experience with DS so it's not like this is new to me.

>>321734283
Hunters Axe is the way to go, it's what I picked for my playthrough and it's worked just fine. I've cleared about 6 bosses so far with it.

I've put most of my leveling into VIT though, with some going into STR, but my endurance is still just at like 15 (i'm lvl 55 now). See no need to put anything else in it because I time my hits and it recovers very fast.
>>
>>321734283
What weapon do you recommend and should i do lone survivor?
>>
>>321734539
Axe or cleaver, and probably the blunderbuss.

For class? Honestly idk, go with the one with the most VIT and STR, I've never really looked to deep in to classes because they aren't that important.
>>
>>321734035
Some people have difficulties w/ the game, as long as they're comfortable w/ summoning it's fine.
W/ that being said I choose to always run first playthroughs solo, but that's just me.

Naw yhe saw spear can be found early and once you beat the boss you can buy the starting weapons.

Bro rush through the mobs and find the shortcut. When u do that u can go straight to the boss w/o dealing w/ most of them. Also, early game levels dont really matter. Practice fighting the boss and dont waste too much time dealing with mobs
>>
>>321736068
They're eyes.

That's why winter lanterns, witches, and crows drop them.

Because those are all things that collect eyes.
>>
>>321736335
Never realized this... I always thought grows dropped them because birds collect rocks or some shit.
>>
>>321734539

Classes aren't very important because they just dictate your stats at the beginning, but Lone Survivor is a good pick because it has good starting VIT.

Threaded Cane is legitimately my favourite of the starting weapons but it's also the most underpowered to begin with, so not ideal if you're having trouble. Both the Cleaver and Axe are pretty good. I would say the Axe is a little easier to use, but the Cleaver will do more damage to a lot of the early-game enemies due to the Serrated bonus against beasts. As for the gun, Pistol has a shorter recovery after firing which can make it easier to parry with when you're not good at the timing, but Blunderbuss is better for staggering enemies and is less likely to miss if an enemy is moving a lot. I would say they're both about equally good for new players, just preference really.

If you can get up to the sewers (shortly before the first mandatory boss fight) there's an item that will allow you to buy all the starting gear to play around with it.
>>
>>321733193
It gets better once you get the hang of it, first playthroughs are like that.

Decide what weapons you like and going to use and check if they scale with strenght or skill and make your build splitting 50/25 because that's where the hard cap and soft cap is, but do get your health to 50 it helps, especially once you'll be able to buff yourself with runes.

Now leave this thread before you get too much spoiled.
>>
>>321736263

When demons souls came out, I literally could not get past 1-1. It was infuriating. I tried again a few days later and went very slowly through everything. It takes time to get used to the pacing. Bloodborne starts easier though. So don't rush it. Enjoy the thrill of the ride

I can understand most of this, but
>20 minutes tops

You would have had to run past every enemy in order to get through that fast and even then Amelia should hold you back at least a quarter of that time, due to how much HP she has.
>>
>>321732496
Nigga you can just agro 1 or 2 mob at a time. Pay attention to their patrols.

It beat dark souls 1 and 2 but the beginning of bb was still hard for me.

I always get spanked left and right in the first level of souls games because you don't have any weapons, levels or upgrades.

It gets easier when you level up and git gud with some movesets.

It's a gr8 game, just don't give up and you'll beat it eventually.
>>
>>321737686

>uses summons
>surprised that bosses are easy

Wow it's really fucking nothing. As for the witches, those crusty cunts are easier than the Celestial Emissary. Rolling solo on bosses for the first time is always the best. You don't get the same feeling from fighting a boss when you end up just stunlocking them on half the fight with other people. Not only that, but you don't really learn the fights that way since the bosses will constantly switch targets allowing you to constantly be able to safely heal while your partner takes the aggro.
>>
>>321737804
>>321738227
True facts, man.
I ran past Dhurja's assistant because I wasn't fighting him under a gatling gun, and went right up to Dhurja. I hit him twice before Dhurja backhopped right the fuck off the tower. I did fight with the assistant a bit before he hopped off the little side part right by were you get the charred armor set.

BSB and Amelia were both strokes of good luck I guess. I died in the area around both of them plenty of times, but when I finally stopped pissing about, I ran to the boss doors and into the boss fights and just handled it.

I'm not sure what happened with the witch, besides it being entirely enemies I've seen before, barring crazy ladies with axes.

I'm not saying that it took me 20 minutes each area (I spent a few hours fucking about in Old Yharnam farming the beasts), but BSB and Amelia went by fast as fuck, and the Witches isn't even a fight.

The best advice I can give you is to be patient op. Modern gamers have grown so accustomed to everything being giving to them on a silver platter that we forgot to learn things. You have to get accustomed to learning and improving in the game.

It's okay to die. It's okay to make mistakes. Just learn from them and improve. You make mistakes so you can improve. The more you fight, the more you will learn. Soon that area will seem easy to you. Try to take on as little enemies at once as possible. Make sure when you see a lantern you light it. That's the equivalent to a checkpoint.

There is a hidden spell early on but it is buff. There is also a flamethrower which is quite effective.

However molotovs scale with arcane and most early bosses are weak to fire so the points aren't wasted.

Well if you take the blood minister literally the Yharnam you're in is literally a dream you get pulled into and the real one probably hasn't gone to hell.

There's that if it makes you feel better.

Trickmode wheel has highest gemmed arcane damage as far as I know.

The stat screen lies because it doesn't show that the scaling arcane portion gets multiplied by four meaning that it is easy to reach 400+ arcane with residual physical damage on top of that.

>>
>>321742898
Well using the word real is actually a misnomer here.

I think better phrase would be home-field. Because Bloodborne indulges in the Dreamlands so much, everything is a real tangible place you visit. Even if Yharnam was a 'dream' it would be a real city with history and everything. The Elderitch truth would be more the Truth of reality. That there are cosmic beings that exist in many different realities at the same time.

>>321743040
I think in the original reading I read, Gherman freeing you from the hunt is basically abandoning you in Dream Yharnam because you know too much of the Elderitch things or some shit. Your memory is cut and you as a very intimidating hunter is left in Dream Yharnam to essentially fight an eternal hunt until you go mad.

Like I said, it's not the lore viewpoint I ascribe to.

the threaded cane is life itself early on:

the crowd control ability and the serrated damage on the whip makes it an absolute monster in the early game, herd enemies into a bottle neck and kill them all with a few swings from outside their effective range. easy.

either go quality/arcane and use primarily the moon blade or go skill/arcane then use blades of mercy and burial blade. you could do a strength/arcane focused character, but you would have to use the wheel and tonitrus

anyway you chose to go, you will need to farm gems since they're hard to come by outside of chalice dungeons

I bought the DLC just after finishing the game. In NG+ I'm currently up to Forbidden Woods storywise and up to Ludwig the something or other in the DLC. The one the looks like a Mutated donkey with added laser cannon.

This DLC really knows how to hurt me emotionally and physically.

God I should've bought the DLC before entering NG+. I've currently got 50 strength and am using Kirkhammer and that lawnmower/pizza cutter, but I'm still doing barely any damage to Ludwig. Is there a way I can up my damage output more? I read somewhere that stats cap at 50 and don't actually raise it anymore after that, so if I start to updgrade Skill or Arcane instead will that help me?

>>
>>321746857
You have to be retard to imagine everyone beats the game in one play through.
>>
>>321746606

As with other Souls games, stats have diminishing returns which amplify after a certain point.
While you always get a benefit from raising stats, 50 is the cut-off point after which it becomes negligible.

You will now get more damage from going to, say, 15-16 on Kirkhammers B Arcane Scaling than you will going from 50-51 on it's A Strength Scaling. So, yes, put points in Arcane.

Ludwig isn't very hard once you learn his movements. My advice is to bait his successive three strikes attack and roll under him during his final attack, allowing you to get in a hit or two and then roll out again.
His slow overhead slash with his right claw is punishable too, and he's very vulnerable to a few hits after missing with either his laser attack or either of his jumps.

That's for his first form, as for his second- you'll have to learn the timing for dodging his slashes and try to roll through them and get behind him.

Watch out for his overhead smash combo though, it's usually safer to recognise it's signal and then back out of that one.
>>
>>321747245

Ludwig is one of those get in - get out kind of bosses. You can't hover around in his face and expect to dodge all of his incoming attacks, you should only be near him when he's vulnerable to being hit without retaliating.

Took me a good long while to figure out when he was vulnerable, keep at it and you'll get there in the end- I can solo him without problem now.

That said, if you can it might be easier to just summon someone. He's not so bad when his aggro is divided between two or three people.

Father Cascoigne is hard at first, but get easier once you learn how to parry/visceral attack him.
Use the Tiny Music Box when he goes beast mode, it makes it a tad easier. Also if you can figure out at what level of health he goes beast mode and do a visceral attack just before he reaches that amount of health you'll only have to get in a few hits to end the battle quickly.

Started the game a week or 2 ago OP and also my first Souls game. Best advice is to explore and practice dodging and attacking on other enemies. Also you want to try and unlock as much shortcuts as you can. I died probably 20+ times on the part you are on. Its all about trial and error. Wait till you get to the bosses then you will know the true meaning of rage. I'm on boss # 3 and the poison is bullshit and makes me rage hard.

Good luck anon, just remember to not go in swinging like crazy and use strategy. Also remember to not feel bad about dying, some of my friends died like 20 times on the first enemy aka the werewolf until figuring out how to equip a weapon lol
>>
>>321749871
Antidote and Poison resistant armour anon.Blood Starved Beast is optional too.

So I have a slight theory without anything to back it up.

The One Reborn, do you think that could be an attempt at bringing back the Orphan of Kos? It's face looks a fair bit like him. Maybe one of the Mensis Scholars rituals were to bring a Great One back to life, one of them being the Orphan of Kos. The birth/rebirth symbolism is fairly similar and fucked up.

Maybe Orphan is just embodying these deceased corpses of Yahar-gul people. Do we know anything more about the One Reborn?
>>

>>
>>321746857
Is that true? So a third of players don't even make it that far? That's depressing.

>>

>>
>>321748757

Tiny Music Box seems usable throughout the fight, I've seen it work at least three times per fight. Just use it, charge-R2 from behind- visceral repeat.

Father Giuseppe is also stupidly weak to molotovs, moreso in his second form. Just save a couple and use them to dispatch him once he transforms, using the Music Box if you have trouble making him hold still.
>>
>>321750106
The women who summoned him are not "School of Mensis" members. They don't have the cage.

The women are what the game calls "Bell-ringing women".
The bell-ringing women are Pthumerians and old women of Cainhurst.
They are Pthumerians because most of the bell items have descriptions that say the bells were found in the chalice dungeons, whom Pthumerians once lived in.

They may be from Cainhurst because one of the portraits looks like a young Bell-ringing woman. (Identified by Jerks Sans Frontieres in youtube)
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KrVgKL_D0D4

My theory is that Queen Yharnam wants to help the Hunter by flushing the Mensis members out of the Nightmare of Mensis, and they came out as the One Reborn. So when the Hunter enters the dream, only Micolash and the Choir Spy remained inside it.

I know it works beforehand, but his beast form is the hardest part of the fight. Although if you visceral attack just before he enters it, then you don't even need the Music Box for the beast part.

I didn't even have the music box on my first playthrough, so it's entirely possible to do it without the Music Box even if you suck at Bloodborne. As proven by the fact that I made it past him.

That's pretty interesting. I was gonna say 'but their bodies are all in the building just after One Reborn', but that doesn't matter because they pulled their bodies from the dream.

But why would she try to help you by summoning a giant Great One? Obviously she thought you could handle it, but those Pthumerian/Cainhurst bell ladies are also trying to kill you, so I don't quite understand that.

I like your theory though. The video about the Cainhurst portraits is cool.

I think that all of Queen Yharnam's soldiers are just hostile to the hunter. Even in the Chalice Dungeons (where you can fight even her).

You can go back all the way to the Forbidden Woods and check out the "Shadows of Yharnam" boss fight. They are there just to challenge you.

As you beat her servants one after another, and you meet her on top of "Mergo's Loft" at the Nightmare of Mensis, Yharnam herself just stands there and is not hostile to you.

Its as if at that moment, she's thinking, so you just wont fuck off huh? Very well, kill "Mergo's Wet Nurse" for me and retrieve my invisible child.
And after you do that and decide to go back to where Queen Yharnam was, she actually bows down to you for slaying the wet nurse.

Also I think she just fights you in the Chalice Dungeons because you were actually going after her ass and retrieve a trophy (Yharnam Stone, pic related) to show how good you are as a hunter. And retrieving the stone doesn't even mean you killed her, you just beat her in a fight.
