I don't understand
So if the villain is a mass murderer and I'm not but I kill one person which is him that makes me just as worse as him? Despite the fact that he's the guy who killed millions
>>
>>321705862
grew up watching TNG. I thought I'd seen every episode between 2 to 5 times.Watched them all on netflix and I had never seen that episode ever. It was a treat even though it wasn't all that great of an episode.

no, it's the one where the ship gets taken over by some stuff and data wears a mask and says shit. season 7 I think.
>>
Why were they pushing Worf and Troi so hard in season 7?
>>
That's right
>>
>>321708482
it's something to do, I think it was ok.
>>
>>321708482
Probably just to give them something to do other than Worf getting ragdolled and Troi talking about sensing the obvious.

Couldn't Telltale do something? Heck we could even get a decent RPG out of it if devs gave a shit
>>
>>321709775
Not really. Troi a shit, and Worf immediately runs off to fuck a slug lady.
>>
>>321710061
>Gaming tech has come so far and we still don't have a good modern Trek game
That's because CBS stopped giving a shit once Nemesis flopped and Enterprise was cancelled, which caused Activision to drop the license. CBS and Paramount only care about making shitty generic movies and games and slapping the Trek name on them, just like what Disney and EA are doing with Star Wars.

Yeah, let's totally disregard that they've given us the best Star Wars movie in over 3 decades because one of the characters is black and the other is a bit of a Mary Sue.
>>
>>321711027

>>
>>321711027
>the best Star Wars movie in over 3 decades
When your only competition is the prequels, that's not hard. Doesn't change that it's generic Abrams crap that's specifically designed to be as "marketable" as possible instead of trying to be a legitimately good movie, which is the same problem as the Trek reboot movies and games, and the new Battlefront.
>>
>>321707197

That pic is from one where they interact with a meteoroid which fuses with the ship, its ancient and powerful. Changes the ship into some old sun god culture shit and he does some ritual and gets the other dude to give up the throne.

science fiction has always had stories with utopian futures and stories with dystopian futures

the best science fiction stories though are ones that don't simply take todays problems and magnify them, but rather try to imagine what the unique problems of a different era would be. Note how so much science fiction of the cold war era predicted it only intensifying or leading to humanity's destruction, it now seems naive and dated today.

yeah its good, its all on netflix

I'd say a good episode that captures the tone of the series at its best is voyager season 2 episode 23, give that a watch and see if this sort of thing is your cup of tea.

>that episode where data's creator activates some kind of homing beacon which overrides Data's systems causing him to commandeer the ship and lock everyone out of the bridge
>entire first half of the episode is about the crew trying and failing to wrest control back of the ship
>at the end of the episode there is absolutely no fallout over the fact that data was remote controlled and caused the enterprise to fly away from its mission, never mind the fact that someone with a real agenda could some day use that technology.

This bothered me, what captain would allow an android on his ship after that incident?

>Gaming tech has come so far and we still don't have a good modern Trek game

It's coming, it'll just need a star trek skin modded onto it.

The game is so star trek you even have policy for how to handle pre-spacefaring civilization and the way you advance the tech tree is by sending out ships that are basically the enterprise to explore.

>>321717610
The problem with the JJTrek movies, and JJWars, is not the quality, but the fact that they're generic sci-fi movies intentionally designed to try and be as "safe" as possible while having little interesting from their respective franchises. They feel like they were written by people who have no idea what Star Trek and Star Wars are about besides the cliff notes character summaries.

I haven't seen any st movies. That explains it. Does anyone know the advantage to just making their ships bigger and bigger? Or is that something they do so the audience associates it with lower? Discounting the Defiance, obviously.

And as mentioned, the prequels are a really low bar for comparison. Superior writers were able to take that setting and tone and do something good with it. JJWars felt like it ignored absolutely everything to be a generic JJ Abrams film with Star Wars slapped on it.

Alright, I can understand this point of view if you're a Star Trek fan because the standard pace of the shows are nothing like the movies turn out to be, but get real. Star Wars 4-6 had nothing in it that couldn't be considered "safe". There is nothing that happens in TFA that (aside from the more grand special effects) would have felt out of place set in the originals, and vice-versa. You're making a lot of vague statements and not a lot of specific examples. WHAT is safe? What is "not like Star Wars"?

Every star wars movie except for 7 has at least in some way been weird and experimental. Because that's what Lucas does.

The aliens being just normal, the art and prop design being battered and dirty, these things weren't really things before star wars, not in the way they were afterwards. Even star trek did make a deal out of aliens rather than just having them -be-

The only safe thing in the original really was the fact that it was standard mythology ala hero of a thousand faces. Hell even using WW2 fighter planes as an inspiration for your space battles was new and experimental.

The Walking Dead comic addressed this story-arc in an incredibly satisfying way, allowing one of the best characters to remain and for him to suffer a much deserving fate.
