It was really boring at the beginning, then at about ch. 4-5 it was one of the scariest games I've ever played. After a while you get used to it and it stopped being scary.

What usually happens to me is that I get really in the mood to play one, I set the mood by turning off all lights and using headphones. I get 2 minutes into the game and I can't stomach it any longer and give up. Alien isolation was no different.

The AI bugs and rag doll psychics were hilarious, really broke up the heavy dread of the game.

It's great but after you blow up the xeno nest, it got really repetitive and boring and I realized there's still several hours to go. The general consensus was that it's about 4 hours too long because the gameplay while great wears out its welcome. 12 hours would be great, 16 is too much.
Didn't touch the Ripley DLC but I heard it's cool. You play on the Alien 1 ship right?

it is but absolutely only get it when its on a massive sale though because crew expendable and last survivor are both extremely short.

Personally I never got the 'too long' criticism. Through most of it's sections, the game does a good job of keeping you on your toes, plot-wise, it makes you struggle by the skin of your teeth to earn your ending. There's a bit of fatigue by the end, but it felt appropriate to the game's element. Besides, I'd honestly take a good game several hours 'too long', over a good game that's too short. There's certainly no shortage of the latter.

This fucking game won't run on my computer. Goes through the opening movies, then a loading screen for what I can only assume is the main menu, and crashes. My PC's never had an issue playing newer games but this unoptimized piece of shit is killing me.
