Not Undertale
I wanna say Splatoon, as far as game design goes. Everything comes together in a surprisingly intuitive way, and the game itself manages to present that in a great way.
I'm enjoying Xenoblade right now, especially since this is my first and the game mechanics are slowly making more sense to me the longer I play through the game. During Chapter 8 I realized just how useful Defensive Stance is when trying to build meter and TP for all of my offensive arts.
Undertale was a pretty fun ride the first time through, though I've exhausted every ending in the game and I'm not about to wait 10 minutes on a dead screen to play it again.

For me its a tie between Splatoon and Rocket League, both are incredibly fun titles.

I played a lot of games this year. I didn't play Bloodborne which I think I would have rated highly if I did. Not enough to justify the cost of a PS4 in Canada for me yet. I plant to get one next December when It will have a nice handful of exclusives I like.
