Just order a 65 inch 4k curved as a little christmas pressie for myself
>>
An old crt. God bless scart
>>
27 inch 1440p 120hz IPS korean bullshit
it is the best monitor i've owned though
>>
Simple HD TV. I dont see the difference in most shows/movies that I watch since most are designed to be displayed at a lower resolution then what your TV can display, for consumer usability.

27" 1440p 144hz IPS Acer monitor with G-Sync. Incredible monitor.

Most people in /v/ can't afford these large 4K TVs, this is why you see a lot of faggots with shit tier 20in monitor trashing these big TV and people who could afford them.

My shitty 19' Sceptre just died so I picked up a 48' Vizio Smart TV for $450.

Its pretty nice. Like night and fucking day. The TV might actually be a bit too big for the room but i don't give a fuck. Hyrule Warriors looks so much nicer now
>>
>>321644398
The first ones did, but the new ones generally have as much as a normal HDTV

Still shit compared to a monitor, but more like 35-40 ms compared to the 800 it used to be
>>
>>321643391
They donĀ“t even make most anime at 1080 yet and most VNs are below that. Why would I get 4k if I can just get 120hz?
1440p is a meme resolution like 900p

Does upscaled 4k look better than native because otherwise there's no point of a 4k TV right now

There is a reason why they play hollywood movies on some of the smaller HD TV, but for these 4K TV it is always just demos.
>>
>>321644732
Definitely. Its amazing how smooth everything plays even at sub 60 fps, and not having to worry about tearing ever again is awesome
>>
>>321644921

Yes, so that they can sell the 4k edition 10 years later

>>
>>321644948
>>321644732
if you get a 120hz monitor you can just set the refresh rate to 60.
I wouldn't get a 144 since it's not an exact duplicate of 60.

>>321645157
>gimmick
curved works, I don't really understand how you can argue against it. 3D is a gimmick. Curved makes sense.
>>
>>321644732
I don't know about you, but since I switched to 144hz I hardly get any tearing, even below 40fps. I thought G-sync was essential for the tearing issue (so you read on the internet), but tearing isn't an issue at higher frequencies, at least for me.

My setup isnt that impressive at the moment. Its an old-ish HDTV monitor, dont even remember what year we got it. The DPI is shit, its only 1360x768, and the quality I get through an HDMI output is less than impressive. For some reason, VGA looks just fine (comparatively anyway, its still only 720p with bad pixel density). I'm surprised that the input lag isnt actually that bad, but Im starting to notice it in some faster paced games lately.
I ordered a 144hz 24" 1080p benq monitor, Amazon price is around $400 (with shipping/tax) but I found it (brand new) for only $340 (and then discounted to only $288) and I recently got a CRT on the side too.
>>
Westinghouse 39" 1080p 60hz. Does everything I need. Didn't see a reason to pay more than what I did, I think like $250.
>>
So the "standard" went from 720p, to 1080p, and now its shifting to 4k? Like console generations or something. How long till you think 4k becomes the absolute standard and 1080p users are left in the dust? Right now it kind of seems like 4k is the premium, 720p is the minimum, and 1080p is what most have

>>

And even then I think people will just stop at 1440p before 4K

You ask why because you are poor and don't make a lot of money, and you don't have a wife who also makes quite a lot of money.
>>
>>321645490
>Why must it be an exact dup of 60?
Because since most games are still 60fps you will get dithering/juddering or whatever they call it
>>
>>321645694
Because you spend 100% of your time staring at it.
>>
>>321643391
Sorry to hijack thread a bit but i'm looking at getting a new monitor and i've got a good bit of cash to drop.

I'm considering either getting a widescreen Gsync monitor or just going all out and getting 4k. My brother has a 4k but doesnt' play games and the display is fucking gorgeous.

I currently have a 980 so i'm not going to be able to do 4k off the bat but i was thinking about getting the monitor now and then potentially SLI ing 2 980s later, which i imagine should be able to cope with the demand?
>>
For my PC, just a Dell U2412M. It's the next thing on my upgrade list. I'll either get the Acer Predator XB270HU or the upcoming Asus ROG Swift PG279Q, pending reviews.

For my home theater setup, which I occasionally game on, I have a Samsung PN60F8500 plasma. The picture quality is stunning.

It's better than the Asus or Acer but not without flaws. They all use the same panel anyways. Too bad there aren't any games to play because everything is shit these days.
>>
>>321646656
eh
i mean 27 inches isn't exactly big, and those aren't 4k either.

i guess i should try to see how big the comparison is between the two for games but it's pretty hard since shops dont generally have monitors on display and certainly not for games. That's why i figured i'd ask if anyone has used either here.

I'd rather just go mad fucking keen and get a 30/32 4k. but that may be overkill. The idea of playing dragons dogma in 4k calls to me though
>>
>>321646537
Oh wow, you're right, no wonder I saw it go so cheap, now its not even available on Amazon. I previously wanted it for the convenient built-in speakers, display port input, and low price, but Im just getting an XL2430T instead (get it on jet.com for the lowest price + 15Today for $50 off. not even a shill) http://www.displaylag.com/benq-xl2430t-review-144hz-gaming-monitor/
Plus I heard the panel quality isnt that good (does have low input lag, but below average quality even for gaming monitors) since its a little older/BenQ's panels on average are higher quality than asus

>>
>>321643391
4k curved is shit for playing games, as the extra processing for the image to properly show on a curved screen adds a big delay. I believe even on gaming mode you will have over 180 ms input lag.

I know since I own one of those. Great tv for movies and casual games. Just not for any games that require fast inputs.

is the difference between 65 inches and 55 inches nigt and day? I have this a 55 inch panasonic vt60. The last and best plasma. But now I feel I fucked up because it's starting to feel small.

The tv has the perfect picture quality for me with pretty much black levels on par with OLED, more accrate color than current OLEDS, and much better film motion than OLEDS right now with no judder (since I'm really /tv/ and that's what I care about).

The only thing is the tvs starting to feel a bit small to me. I just want a bigger version, but panasonic discontinued all their legendary plasmas, and the vt60's are more expensive than lg's oleds now.

witcher 3 runs around 50-60fps with most things on ultra at 3440x1440, gsync/freesync is a great feature so it's very hard to detect when a frame drop has occured.

A few games don't support 21:9 which is the only downside, i would love to play MGS V using the whole mointor but haven't been able to find a fix for it.

I've got a small set up and only would want a 32in HD TV. Don't need 4k. I want it to be thin and light. So far, TVs in that size are still a little thick. Like 2 inches thick. Hoping I can upgrade in a few years with one that's like the 24in monitor I use at only half an inch thick.

Monitor's surface normal is pointing at your face from the edges, useful if you sit near large screen.

Definitely not a meme, the IMAX theaters I go to have curved screens, but you wouldn't know that since you don't leave your basement. Now that is a meme

actually the actual term "meme" fits many things (an idea or behavior passed among people in a society). even if overused, it's not wrong.
meme tv makes sense because they're refering to it as a gimmicky technology that people are buying into without even knowing why

game enthusiasts that like front mission, dragon quest, AND are home theater enthusiasts and aren't spergs and aren't cringey? Who the fuck are you people? You can't find these people on the street? These are the only people I can relate to and have a decent conversation with. Why is this such a happy place with the best of tastes and highest of sensibilities? The only problem is the immaturity, console war shit, and Nintendo dickriding. Other than that, I'm at home.

There are decent 4k tv's available that can offer the best bang for your buck like Vizio's M series. Also curve is just a meme, it's only aesthetic and don't offer any viewing benefits although manufacturers say that they have better viewing angles but aside from that, they don't offer better image quality.

I actually own it. The blur is not that bad, so far I only really notice it when playing my ps3 and mostly on FFX HD. Another game I've tried on the ps3 was The Boring Of Us and it was very minimal there too. With the steam link playing with pc's native 1080p is barely noticeable. If your'e on a budget I would definitely recommend it.

Use the Standard default color template and turn on game mode and you're set. For movies definitely use rtings calibration settings.
>>
>>321653080

Let me add that the very noticeable blur on FFX is on cutscenes and not gameplay.

What is the point of a 4K TV?
There is no 4K blu rays, tv channel dont broadcast in 4K, consoles cant 4K and shitty input delay and response time if you ever want to plug a PC.
It's just a normie trap scam imo, for the bigger the better meme.

A 4K monitor does make sense for people doing graphic work and those with monster builds.

I agree. I've seen clowns buying them for their xbox thinking that it'll look better

if anything, watching your 1080 stuff on a 4k TV would look worse than on a 1080p screen

And even if you mention 4k streaming shows, they will be so compressed with a low bitrate that you may as well have went for a decent 1080p stream rather than a severely bandwidth restricted 4k

unless they make some magic codec that can push way more with less filesize but I wouldn't gamble my money on 4k until that's real
>>
>>321657531
whats the downside
>>
>>321658017
There is HEVC which already exists and is about half the filesize of H264.
