While it's interesting, given what they've put out, I think Xenoblade X provides a better experience of exploration.
People don't know what to talk about, and everything that was there to talk about has been exhausted a long time ago.
Showing it off so early and showing so little just killed all momentum this game had. Now most people will either forget about it by the time it's out or warily wait for somebody else to take the bullet, and there's a good chance that those who will take the bullet will be disappointed.

I am almost certain they did that in order to be able to bargain with investors. If they make a preview clip of the game that gets 2 million views and gets mentioned on every site and there's a lot of hype, that's quite a bit of interest and that alone can help them secure funding.
That being said, I still am excited for this game, if only to be able to become a space pirate and grief other players. If that's not an option in the game, then I might not get it.

From what I understand it's "multiplayer" in the sense that you can leave your mark on the world in certain ways. Like naming shit and activating/placing nodes or whatever. But you can't actually see other players in real time and interact with them.

The idea was that everyone is in the same universe, and are traveling towards the center of the universe. That's the "goal" of the game. The universe is ridiculously large though, so while you might stumble on a planet someone else had been (which is supposed to be rare), the chances of running into someone is astronomically low, although technically I believe its possible to do so.

maths designate that at a given x,y,z coordinates a certain planet should be generated as you approach, same for every other player in the server.
the thing is if these coordinates will be visible for the player, which they should make it visible otherwise it will be nearly impossible to organize meet ups or even get to see another player ever
