I am Andrew Ryan, and I'm here to ask you a question. Is a man not entitled to the sweat of his brow? 'No!' says the man in Washington, 'It belongs to the poor.' 'No!' says the man in the Vatican, 'It belongs to God.' 'No!' says the man in Moscow, 'It belongs to everyone.' I rejected those answers; instead, I chose something different. I chose the impossible. I chose... Rapture, a city where the artist would not fear the censor, where the scientist would not be bound by petty morality, Where the great would not be constrained by the small! And with the sweat of your brow, Rapture can become your city as well.
Yes, that is what he said. Good job.

If andrew ryan was so smart how come he didn't realize utopias are impossible to create?
>>321607674
But who was ohone
>>321607674
Too bad he looked nothing like concept art in-game.
That said, Andrew Ryan and Robert House are now blending in my head and I can't quite differentiate one from the other anymore.
Never understood why he committed suicide.
>>321608307
he chose.
>>321608395
He could have also chosen not to die.
>>321607674
Mr House please shouldn't you be shining your snowglobes and fapping to your robowaifus by now?
>>321608464
A captain goes down with the ship. He hated the world above and would rather die with his utopia than try to reintegrate into the world he was trying to escape.
>>321608601
Real man would kill himself on his own.
>>321607674
Wasn't this guy based on that person who spent the end of his days living off a diet of chocolate and milk while watching movies on a big projector screen?
>>321607674
if he was so fucking smart why didn't he just go
"would you kindly rebuild rapture mate?"
and then bioshock WOULD have to rebuild rapture and he could go back to ruling that.
>>321608823
>implying it wouldn't all just happen again in his refurbished utopia
Humans are inherently flawed him doing this all again will amount to nothing because people are always fucking shit up.
>>321608823
>and then bioshock WOULD have to rebuild rapture and he could go back to ruling that.
>Implying the main character of Bioshock is named Bioshock
>I literally cannot even
>>321608704
Well that's where cool gameplay steps on cool character development's toes.
>>321608736
No, this wasn't based on your life, retard.

Part of why 2 is superior, on top of the better gameplay, you're hunting down a Collectivist

Well said, fellow learned anon. You are a gentleman and a scholar just like myself. :^)

The Atlas form is dead, insect.

Was SHODAN reveal scene suppose to be mind-blowing or "about time you show up" type?
>>321611359
did you play the game?
>>321611359
not mind blowing, but terrifying and isolating. You only meet like 2 other living peopleand then they die too, RIP Delacroix
you are all alone and she is the best friend you have. You're fucked.
>>321611419
Yes and I got the latter feels
>Just finished System Shock 2 for the first time
I thought people were exaggerating the similarity between it and Bioshock, but no amount of description can accurately summize exactly how much of a copy paste the entire plot is. It's exactly the same, with Xerxes as Ryan, Polito as Atlas, SHODAN as Fontaine and Delacroix as Tenembaum. Every plot twist is the same, the gameplay is near identical save some light RPG mechanics; it's incredible. I'm amazed people give Bioshock credit for doing anything new or unique when almost none of it steps out of line with System Shock 2.

He was choosing to kill himself and making two points to the MC at the same time. That's why. Demonstrating choice in action and how the MC has no choice of their own.
>>321610785
>Anon doesn't know things
>>321611546
yup, I loved bioshock before I knew about SS2, but SS is so much better while Bio copys and pasts so many elements while dumbing so much down that I can really understand all the rage people had when BS came out.
SS 2>BS 2>BS>SS>BSI

Because if his son couldn't resist the urge to murder him, then his entire philosophy is forfeit. There is no free will. There is no rational self-interest. Shit's fucked, yo.
Say....if Rupture didn't discover ADAM would it become a stable city?
>>321610264
spotted the randroid
>>321611926
No. It'd still be ruled by armed gangs.
>>321611764
Is the first System Shock really that piddling next to the others? Now that I'm done 2, I've been eyeballing the Enhanced Edition during these Steam Sales. It's not often that I feel a drive to seek out more content of a series like this.
>>321611928
But he's right. Ryan didn't understand objectivism at all. Smugglers wouldn't exist in a laissez faire capitalism to begin with.
>>321609748
anon go back to tumblr please, it's not nice here
>>321612128
play the Mac version if you can but that's only because of superior assets
try the game out, it's free for download if you can find it and if you can find a copy of the systemshock portable mod you can play with mouselook that works almost all of the time
>>321612128
nah, fine game if you're into games from that era, the competition is just stiff in that list. It's more ultima underworld with guns distinguished by not being a DOOM clone than the rest of the series hallmarks. Enhanced Edition is great (but sadly lacks the mac soundtrack and custom resolutions above 720p make the game crash)
>>321612329
but they were smuggling bibles

Objectivism doesn't ban religion, it just denies it as rational thought
>>321612529
>>321612837
Yup, you're free to be a radical national Socialist as much as you like, until the instant you step over the line and forcefully violate someone else's rights at which point it's the proper responsibility of the government to step in and protect your victims and administer justice
>discussing this on /v/ when /his/ exists
what am I doing with my life?not acting in rational accordance with my hierarchy of values to my best rational self interest is what... I suck at this philosophy, feels bad man
