Played the first game, X i think? I learned about instakills and that's what I just wanted to do. After that I saw a program on the TV about reviewing X2 and I was blown away about the graphics and style at that time. But of course, I fucking sucked and all I wanted to do was cheap combos and insta-kills. I didn't know ANYTHING about combos.
Fast forward to a few years, I discovered dustloop and saw how high-level players did the combos and I was shocked. I didn't know it actually had that depth. Still, my country sucked anyway to have real competition so I was just fine watching vids and stuff.
Moving forward to Xrd, now with online and stuff, I got really into it.
I do hope it gets the recognition it deserves. Too bad it will never happen unless the "anime" call-outs stop.

My friend got pretty big into X when it came out, then we played it even more when X2 came out, and when I finally was able to get a PS2 myself I made sure to get X2 first thing. I really got into it in college when Isuka came out, and I've logged the most practice hours with that version of the game. I got very, very used to the turn button, and it's not as bad as it sounds.
I play Venom rushdown, and it looks like they unfucked it in Xrd, because I was trying it in Accent Core and it was not possible in the slightest. I was not looking forward to having to drop him, so I'm ecstatic that I don't have to anymore.

Well this advice can mess you up when you play against someone decent. Every opening, every single chance to deal damage should count
I'm not talking about extremely optimized specific combos, but knowing some advanced BnB can help you even with some experienced players.
If you just poke them learning footsies and losing, they could get bored and stop playing with you. That's actually my BB experience, people started dodging me because I was shitty.

This is actually the big problem of new people in this kind of game. They really really believe there is no such thing as footsies here. It only belongs in SF.
There is no point learning combos if you can't even hit confirm it.
In the beginning you should have at least 3 go-to combos.
1 ground combo
1 anti-air combo
1 semi-advanced combo
With footsies and neutral comes hit-confiming. With hit-confirming comes basic combos.
With basic combos comes advanced combos.
Players should learn "what to look" at first before even applying advanced stuff.
