I'm in the same boat, sort of. I never had any real gripes against the game, I guess I was just being part of the wailing wall. I had a ps4 already and got it for chrissy. Game so far is incredible.

Also, is it just me or is the starting saw cleaver the best weapon? I bought the big hammer for my money instead of leveling up and I'm kinda eh on the thing.

So screw with people or go through the game with a handicap? I guess I could also mess around with enemies or try another build. This game was a lot shorter than I expected though.

Don't read anymore if you don't want spoilers.
I still don't even understand the ending or the story. From what I gathered the Moon Presence did something and started this whole hunter's dream thing. And the baby had something to do with calling Kos.Or some say Kosm.
But what was with the Doll picking up the little slug at the end?

>>321568007
You are the squid. You've done what others have failed to do, ascended to Great One status, although you're just a baby great one. Moon presence uses the hunters that go through the dream, like Old Wheelchair Man (forgot his name) to do what it wants. (That's why if you don't get the 3 umbilical cords you get put in the wheelchair; you're now being used) The Old Hunters had something to do with a curse placed, and I guess killing the Orphan Lifted it. I haven't played that DLC so I dunno.

BoM is fun as hell. Not a fan of the Rakuyo personally, it's good but not as fun to use as the BoM, and I was kind of disappointed by it after seeing how cool Maria's moveset was by comparison.

But I can't stay away from the Holy Moonlight Sword personally. God damn I love that weapon. My main guy is like level 200 on NG+4 so I've got the stats to just swap between HMS and BoM and it's great.

I actually prefer playing on the virtual console. The gamepad integration is pretty cool and I like supporting franchises I want to see more of. Voting with the dollar and all that.

I mean, Earthbound Beginnings was basically hell freezing over, and I bought Mother 1 and 2 on virtual console because I love the series and would really like to see an official localized port of Mother 3.

And I'm not poor so, there's that.

>>
i really wanted this game to last long but i just can't go past NG. i used to love twinking, but you can't really invade until 43 and you have to grind chalice dungeons to be able to get anything decent anyway. enemies in NG late game have enormous health pools which really pisses me off.

Saif and Pimp Cane, both at +6.

Some shitty gems, nothing particularly good. My damage with both weapons is about 200-220.
>>
>>321568142
Kos, or as some uneducated plebs say, Kosm
>>
>>321568620
Great Ones like the Moon Presence yearn for a child because they can't reproduce and turn to humans as surrogates but keep failing. Humans want to ascend and become Great Ones but are unsure if it can be done through Blood consumption or gaining Insight. The irony with that ending is that the player Hunter is technically the first to ever ascend to being a Great One instead of a Kin (like Rom and Ebrietas) but you killed your Moon Presence daddy to ascend
>>
>>321569306

Actually, most of the Great Ones are sympathetic in spirit. In fact the only ones that could be taken as agressive are Formless Odeon and Amygdala.

The Moonlight Presence was beckoned by the Old Hunters to combat the Beast Scourge. The details are muddy of course but it seems to be helping the hunters without any gain for itself.

>>
>>321569323
Have you noticed after killing/seeing certain bosses/things you gain more insight. It's probably because in combo with you gaining insight from the umbilical cords and killing a great one, like the moon presence that has such an influence over the dream and world.
>>
>>321569559
Rom and Ebrietas are Great Ones.
>>
>>321565113

I just realized that all those people who shit all over Bloodborne called it "Stillborne"

In hindsight...that's extremely on point, though not for the same reason.
>>
>>321569041

I went in there around the same level with a +6 weapon and also got completely fucked until I got gud. I was stuck on him for longer than any boss in the game. I think Orphan of Kos is a more challenging fight but I was far better-prepared for him than I was for Ludwig.

If you want to beat him now instead of coming back later you just have to play really carefully. Stay just out of his reach and just bonk him on the head once whenever he whiffs an attack, then back away again. Eventually you'll get a chance for a visceral attack. You can also get a lot of hits in if you dodge through his breath attack as he's using it and run up to him. And for the love of God don't get hit by the charge.

Thankfully his second phase is a lot easier even though it's more intimidating.
>>
I WANT TO GET PREGNANT WITH A GREAT ONE
>>
>>321569606
I do have a couple of chunks I suppose, but was waiting to get the Rakuyo first.

>13%+ gems
I'll see if I can get some from those fags on the stairs. No way in hell I'm going back to the chalice dungeons.

>>321569671
Hmm well, that makes sense. The cords protect you from getting screwed by MP, and killing it helps you ascend I suppose. Still, BB is fucking weird.
>>
>>321565780
Saw cleaver is literally the best weapon in the entire game. The charge attack time combined with no lock on makes easy back stabs.

>>321569715
They are not "actual/original" great ones though. Rom is a student of Birgenworth (or whatever, I don't give a fuck) but he sort of ascended to great one status. He can't really think or anything like that though. Remember (Nicolas) Cage man talking about Kos giving eyes to the "vacuous Rom?" Rom wasn't and original Great One

kin =/= great ones

goofy ayy lmaos, and ascended former humans like Rom are kin. Great Ones are the step above

I had an easier time getting hits while dodging into his sides. The bad part is that this doesn't position him for a visceral.

Orphan of Kos is a Great One.
He cursed the hunters, and the blood, and controls the nightmare that holds the Hunter's Nightmare.
>>
>>321565113
It's more shallow and forgiving than Dark Souls. It's a good game, but it's s step back in almost every area that's not atmosphere and visuals. Aanyone who has played both and isn't a blind fanboy recognizes this, as much of it is objectively measurable.

The world isn't as interconnected, it's more linear, stamina consumption is a joke, you're not punished nearly as much for missing an attack or mistiming a heal, you can just farm and stack your healing items, rolls have more iframes, equipment and weapon variety is sparse, armor doesn't affect your character's mobility, there's no equip load stat, some equip slots are missing, character builds all play largely the same, magic is gone, covenants aren't as good, PVP is garbage, etc.

Again good game but simply not as good as Dark Souls because it was streamlined (removing options so the player has less room for error and frustration) to reach a wider audience, according to the director himself. It's PS4 exclusive after all, and the vast majority of PS4 owners are playing casual, shallow western trash.
>>
Just wait until you beat it and realize it has literally no replay value at all, something that wasn't a problem for DeS, DaS, or even DaS2

Well for all we know it's just upholding it's end of the deal. I mean sure Gehrman was tired of the dream and all but this is pretty much what he asked for. Note that the ending in which it takes you in is named 'Honoring Wishes' thus implying your character is doing this willingly (it's body language during the cutscene implies this too).

Then again as with every Souls game there is a lot that falls up to interpretation.

>>321570468
She's a Great One, obviously, and you're her surrogate child.
>>
>>321569715
Most things in game referred to as great ones are described so by characters in-game who didn't understand much of what was going on either. Everything above them and beyond understanding is obviously great.

Meanwhile, the game has hard mechanical classifications for enemies. Things like Rom, Ebrietas, and ayylmaos are considered Kin, and all have similar resistances (highly weak to thrust and lightning). Meanwhile, legit great ones like Moon Presence, Amygdala, and the Wet Nurse aren't labeled Kin and have equal resistance to the 3 elements and no particular weakness to thrust.

Orphan of Kos is the only oddball. It becomes Kin halfway through the fight.
>>
>>321570623

There is literally nothing to interpret here, the story is fucking given to you on several plates throughout, this was likely asked for by Sony since they know their audience is stupid enough to buy a console with no games on it, if you can't understand it due to your stupidity that's your fault but don't go on pretending it's deep or complex, you flaming homosexual.

>>321565780
What sort of buffoon talks shit about something he's never even tried and knows nothing about?
>>
>>321570052

You can deal damage quicker that way, but at the time (with very low VIT) I found it a lot less safe in the first phase. If you mistime the dodge on his left-to-right sweep attack it can catch you in multiple hits and instantly kill you, and he has that backstep claw attack that comes out very fast and can also basically OHKO you at low VIT. Plus if you somehow wind up behind him you'll just get kicked in the face.

On the other hand if you stay just out of his reach and only attack him when you know you're safe, you can slowly whittle him down without too much risk provided you don't make any major screwups. It takes longer but I find it a more consistent way to survive the fight at low level. But that's just how it worked out for me.

For the second phase you should absolutely stick to his sides like glue and keep trying to get behind him while beating on his ass, because that's by far the safest and fastest way to win.
>>
>>321570375
Well it seems like Great Ones are also competing for surrogates, which is why Moon Presence sends you on a (cryptic) mission to silence the stillborn dead Great One Mergo (Queen Yharnam's babby, the ghostly white lady) that Micolash tried to contact and reach into the Nightmare of Mensis.

This. The choice to go back to the asinine DeS healing system that just encourages you to farm for hours so you can have basically infinite healing items alone makes it a lesser game than DaS or DeS. Not to even mention the lack of variety in builds, armors, weapons, PvP, and music.

Your mobility is largely the same regardless of what you're using as a weapon or what you're wearing, that is a step backward in complexity and limits the number of different builds and play styles you can use. I understand that the game plays more quickly, that's not the problem. The problem is that the game only lets you play that way, your armor does jack.

Except your mobility is not the same because some weapons have heavy attacks and some have light attacks.
You are only complaining that the main difference is fat guys in armor vs light guys in armor. What you fail to realize is that this is a completely different game, and the variety comes from the extremely unique trick weapons. The diversity in trick weapons allows for multiple playthroughs. Not the armor or clothing.

the great ones are said to be sympathetic and even semi-benevolent, it's humanity that causes the horrors by trying to mix their reality and ours and beckon forth the moon presence. they're also not aliens. they're from the cosmos, but the cosmos means a higher plane in this sense. for example, they say 'The Choir stumbled upon an epiphany, very suddenly and quite by accident. Here we stand, feet planted in the earth. but might the cosmos be very near us, only just above our heads?' which implies that they're terrestrial and not from space.

it's got better lore than most weird fiction writers, including those who have and have not contributed to what literary folks consider the cthulhu mythos.

Every other game has that too, in addition to what BB is missing.
You still walk/run and roll around at the same speed, your mobility is no different your weapon just has different attacks, like every weapon in every other game. The different attacks your weapons had combined with the variations in mobility based on other equipment added more depth and customization to the game, it allowed you access to more varied playstyles and builds.

Again, it's a good game I just wish fanboys would stop pretending it's the best in the series because it's a step backward in so many ways. It's less punishing, it's shorter, the PVP is bad, your builds and play styles are very limited. I just can't understand why anyone would say this is better than Dark Souls unless they're part of that "wider audience" the game was watered-down for and they wanted an easier DmC-like action game without as many RPG elements.

Again, your mobility is still largely the same. You play like a fast DEX build, the only variation is the weapon your using and it's different attacks. Dark Souls had that and allowed you to vary how mobile your character was, so you had both the variation in weapon and its attacks and how your character moved in general. There was more depth.

>t's also just as long as Demons Souls and extremely punishing with chalice dungeons, so I don't get why you need to say that shit.
The game in general is less punishing than Dark Souls, one part of the game accessed much later doesn't make that untrue. I'd expect it to be longer than the first game in the series and not be shorter than the previous two entries, how is that not a step backward?

The problems with Dark Souls 2 were more to do with enemy placement, general layout and pacing, which were generally not problems in BB.
>>
http://vocaroo.com/i/s1mOajfuIli1
>>
>>321573087

Not him, but an individual trick weapon in Bloodborne changes your playstyle far more than most weapons in Dark Souls do. Aside from having multiple forms and more attacks per weapon, there are also weapons with unique mechanics unlike anything in Souls, like the BoM's special dodge damage bonuses, the Beast Claws' beasthood buildup (and interplay with the Beast's Embrace), the Kos Parasite in general, basically every Powder Keg and Vileblood weapon in some aspect, etc. Then there's the addition of a bunch of offhand weapons with entirely different purposes and roles in the gameplay, hunter tools, etc.

The variety argument does hold some weight in the sense that specific playstyles have fewer options compared to others, but claiming BB simply has less depth because it doesn't cater to specific playstyles that Dark Souls did is a gross oversimplification of the game mechanics.

I actually don't like BB more than DaS DaS > BB > DeS > DaS2 but far too much criticism of BB boils down to "it doesn't have [thing that was in DaS]" without accounting for the fact that they're different games.
>>
>>321572921
You probably either go 50/25/25 with nourishing gems, or 25/12-25/50 with tempering flat arcane gems.

The result probably won't be too far apart, but the former will be better general use and in normal sword form, while the latter deals much more of its damage as arcane and is stronger for the tricked form.

>Have you considered that some people just like the main story/first playthrough more
The game just has a little less depth and allows the player fewer options when making their character. Not caring about that is fine, but it doesn't make it untrue. I might not care that the Xcom reboot on 360/PS3 was dumbed-down and had plenty of fun with it anyway but that didn't change the fact that it was mechanically more shallow than the games it was rebooting.

>Also, "it's shorter" is not a valid criticism of quality.

There are more variables in DaS than just your weapon, that's the point. In BB, it doesn't matter what weapon you use, your character moves and rolls largely the same. You can't be a slow-plodding tank with ridiculous poise, you're stuck with your fast DEX build no matter what. I disagree, builds in DaS were more varied than anything you can do in BB. Again, BB is a solid game, jut not as deep as DaS and was a step back in many area.

>but far too much criticism of BB boils down to "it doesn't have [thing that was in DaS]" without accounting for the fact that they're different games.
Absolutely not an excuse. Dark Souls 2 is as different a game as Bloodborne is from DaS, so why shouldn't it get a pass for it's flaws too? The problem is not that BB is missing things from DaS, it's that those things being gone causes the game to be less complex with fewer variables for the player to mess around with. Nothing came in to replace that missing depth in a lot of places, it's just not there anymore.

Making your character look okay is the single hardest thing in Souls.

I can git gud at boss fights, but I will never git gud at character creation.

This game is shit, I played it for a while but returned almost immediately. Souls franchise is dead, it's rehash after rehash, this is the 4th game already and it's basically just the same

>same longsword movements
>same greatsword movements
>dogs, dogs, dogs everywhere the same as ever

only thing they changed: you now get a dedicated heal instawin button that takes 1/4 of the time chugging estus did

the sony shills are shilling hard today for their only game, it's pretty pathetic to be honest

Where the hell in the game is this? I can't think of an area with openable doors of that style and also church giants.
The areas with church giants are the church and the research hall, and neither have that kind of door or walls.

Bloodborne has objectively superior level design and platforming than DS1

No, he's got the hood and the pendant of the church giants. Specifically the ones with just a sword.

>If you don't want to buy a console for a series then you're not a real fan of that series to be honest.
Well, taking into consideration that literally half of Souls games up to this point are Sony exclusive, real Souls fans must've had at least a PS3 or PS4

I can't imagine myself playing DaS1, then going through the shit that was DaS2 and calling myself a fan. My tastes would be exceptionally shit
