DC is good. Been there.

I just wish there were games where you could play as a raptor or something, run through jungle at lightning speed and rip apart mercs. Primal Carnage has the concept right, but seems a bit iffy as a game.

Ark is actually a good game and is getting continuously updated. Definitely the best dino / survival game I've played.
>>
ARK's not too bad, but I feel like it gets really shallow. You spend the majority of your time farming for resources, after which you build stuff for a few minutes, then spend your time watching over dinos as they tame. It -could- be a great game if they simply made fortresses and buildings more durable and harder to instantly raid while someone's offline and unable to defend themselves, and thus up play smaller skirmishes and combat away from fortifications, but I doubt it will ever happen.
>>
DONT GET PRIMAL CARNAGE, that much I can tell you. They abandoned their original game, made an "upgraded" version that you had to completely rebuy for full price, keep talking about a single player episodic experience they will never finish or should have even started on, and other usual Early Access bullshit like never going through with their promises.
if you also dig around their forums, you will find the devs claiming that their episodic game will have the level of exploration of Far Cry 3, the horror and suspense of Amnesia, and better episodic content than Telltale's The Walking Dead

Why is Primal Carnage the only dinosaur video game to have a dinosaur that actually has the appropriate amount of feathers?

And why is it only for one single dinosaur as an optional DLC skin?
>>
>>321536797
I don't remember any dino in primal carnage having feathers. At least when it comes to basic dino skins.

ORION: Prelude is like a dollar on Steam right now. It's pretty naff.
>>
>>321536715
What happened was the original people got bought off and the new guys decided to make it a new game.
You didnt have to buy for full price if you have the original its like half off and when it launched if you had the original before they announced the new game you could buy it for $2.

I've put around 300 hours between the two and they are ok games, just prone to having empty servers now except for roleplaying degeneracy

Get with the times. New discoveries are made about dinosaurs all the time. Back when the first Jurassic Park came out, dinosaurs were considered these giant, slow, lumbering lizards who lived their lives meandering around swamps. It took a major blockbuster hit to actually make the general public aware of how much the scientific understanding of them had changed.
>the new Jurassic Park just copy pasted the dinosaurs from the old movies instead of truly following in its steps and making a serious effort towards scientific accuracy
absolutely shameful
>>
>>321537517
maybe if you're sub-human on a toaster

Ark is GOAT early access. New updates daily, new dinos weekly, fucking awesome game all around. If vanilla servers are too slow, go to a high rate server.
>>
>>321537489
dino-erp, although sometimes its normal rp its still fucking wierd

I caught my best friends son(whos 14 and autistic) on one of those servers. The look on my friends face when I told him was priceless.

The game has skin drops randomly along with crates and shit with several feathered raptor options now

In the original one if you played during the beta/preorded you got a feathered raptor
>>
>>321537489
There are only 2 servers with people in them at any given time.
One is the typical deathmatch server. The other will always be an RP server. Don't ask me how people can RP in that game because I really have no idea.

This is my singular major complaint with the game. And all the lesser issues stem from it. You have to grind like a fucking Korean MMO to get anything done. If they upped the base exp, gather, and tame multipliers on normal servers, it would be much more fun.

Primal Carnage is fun. I still play it now and then. Its great for an Indie game. If they had a bigger team working on it, it would be the best dino game ever. Its worth picking up for 20 dollars or whatever it is.

Jurassic Park is decent.

But it's telltale, so not great on the whole 'game' part

I don't even care about taming speed and all that. I do wish that kibble was more effective but required more of it, so that taming dinos with full kibble was somewhere around 1/20th of the time needed the normal way. My major complaint with taming speed is the fact that taming a dino that needs 8 hours means you have to sit out in the open for eight hours while you slowly feed it narcos and food. If it was something you could work at a little bit here and a little bit there, it'd be much better.

That, and it's far too easy to destroy stuff other people make. Farm up a bit of C4 and you can blow open metal doors no problem. Even vaults don't stand a chance against a few other people that want in them, and defenses aren't enough of a deterrent. It's basically the opposite probelms that taming faces, whereas taming takes a long time and requires your attention throughout, raiding requires a buildup of weapons over time and a few minutes to execute.

http://news.nationalgeographic.com/news/2014/07/140724-feathered-siberia-dinosaur-scales-science/

tl;dr
fossils were found in siberia that happened to be preserved in such a way that it has enough detail to show various types of feathers, and even bare skin that most closely resembles modern day birds'
They have also found fossils with similar evidence for different species in China. It also fits the idea that they were quick moving. Larger dinosaurs such as Brontos and T Rex would not have had this issue, but most smaller ones would have needed some way to regulate body temperature, and feathers would have served as sort of a proto-hair like we have, and later allowed some species down the evolutionary line to fly and become the dinosaurs we have today: birds.

on the last movie, they stated that real dinos looked nothing like the ones in park since they used DNA from todays animals to complete the missing genes on fossils

You can try out The Isle

It's somewhat fun, right now it's alpha and you definitely feel it, content is poor and you can't do much more than killing/eating other dinos

Also sadly, at least in my opinion, it will devolve into something like humans vs dinos with human factions and such. I wish it was going to be more focused on the dino wildlife aspect, I mean of course throw in character progression and perks or whatever, but why there always has to be humans and guns in these fucking games
>>
>>321542006
You can do that in ARK, they recently added ghillie suits and they are pretty damn good for sneaking around
