Mgs4 was more an mgs game that PW or TPP ever were.
MGS4 was a complete game with a beginning, middle and end.
The MGS Cycle means the game released before the current one is automatically the best one.

MGSV brought Volgin back from the dead after 21 years with even LESS of a good reason than MGS4 did with bringing Big Boss back. At least that made some sort of sense.
MGS4 is absolute shit too, but unlike V, it has 2 redeeming qualities that secure it's place in the canon:
-It tells a piece of shit story, but it's a complete one (TOO complete).
-Revengeance, the one true MGS5, is a sequel that really doesn't work without 4 so I guess it's ok to pretend 4 canon. It's a necessary evil.

It was fucking bad, but it was something.
There were twists, turns, you were taken down a (bad) story path in which there was genuine effort put in to giving certain characters arcs (bad as they may be), and having them fulfill certain roles.
V was a fucking weird void of nothing. Leaving gameplay aside there was just absolutely nothing to comment on.

People who like MGS4 are people who like games for their production values and fanservice. One could argue that MGS4 is a meta-commentary on the shallow nature of fanservice, giving people what they want and how one shouldn't dwell on the past. But there is no legitimate proof of that.

MGS4 was still good. The main problem it had was long scenes where not much is actually happen. When stuff did happen it was great.

Every person IS Venom, because they've become him after years of training (the past games), and having Big Boss hand you the reigns to your own personal Outer Heaven was his (Kojima)'s gift to the players.

To me having this concept is a bad thing, its just not done well at all in MGSV, because most players were expecting to play as BB and thought they were BB and were disappointed when they weren't BB at the end but a no name medic.
Honestly if the game had started with the story about the medic first that then became Venom in Chapter 2 then it would be easier to identify with the MC and have that feeling of being a part of the story. If I'm making any sense that is.

Its not entertaining. I don't care about deep meaning or anything, it was just not entertaining in any sort of way to watch these 3 minute cutscenes in every 5 hour where everyone is constantly angry and grunts.
Why even, why would anyone think this is a good way to tell story.
Oh and the casette scenes are 95% exposition dumps as well, the codec was the same as well but at least it was delivered by colorful and entertaining characters.
