True, people learned how to be more successful by making their own "brand" rather than relying on sponsorship and help from Machinima like in the past when joining them was pretty much the only way to become big. Now with the rise of big independent channels and Let's Player's they are slowly dying and have become vastly less relevant over the years.

People realized that it was easier to make money and get famous just by playing video games and putting minimal effort into videos. No one who does gaming videos does them just because they want to nowadays, they do it for the dosh.
