Even Kiryu had all those missions that were direct callbacks to the first game. 5's substories are just one shots, Another Drama missions are the ones with the ongoing subplots.

Sega didn't want to shell out cost for dual layer BD. PS3 can read dual-layer BD just fine, Sega could put in video recap of older Yakuza games if they wanted to but they were just being cheapskates.

Blu-Ray storage limitation doesn't have anything to do with console hardware.
And PS3s can read dual-layered BDs, Sega just didn't want to shell out for them and decided to stick with single-layered ones.
Remember, Y5 is available in retail in Japan. Actually, Sega of America could put in the recap movies if they wanted to but I guess they are just lazy.
