Yes, the script writing was terrible, for fucks sake the later half of the game dregged on so hard I had to force myself through it. The main character was bland as a unsalted saltine. The graphics looked to be hd versions of ps2 backgrounds. The backtracking literally ruins the game, alongside that fast travel works for about 20% of the game and you have to pay for it (granted its cheap). The only redeeming quality the game has is the combat system and the kamui system. Other than that, the game is top tier on the shit list of tales games.

It's basically like Final Fantasy. For the most part they're not connected (outside of small irrelevant cameos/references) unless they're a direct sequel with a 2 in the title, like Symphonia 2 or Xillia 2. Technically Symphonia and Phantasia are also set in the same world, but they're extremely far apart chronologically so it doesn't matter. You can pretty much start wherever.
The only time this gets a bit confusing is Destiny/Destiny 2. The PS1 game that was called Tales of Destiny 2 in the US is actually Tales of Eternia, and is completely unrelated to Tales of Destiny. Further confusing things, there's actually a Tales of Destiny 2 on PS2 that IS a direct sequel to Tales of Destiny, but it's JP only.

Graces using up to move toward enemies is designed with Wiimote,in mind. There is no pro controller support on the game's release. More of a comfort issue that feels off when playing on PS3.

I actually didn't have a big issue with the camera on PC but the party limitation due to the fusion system really sucks. I think the equipment and skill system is one of the worst in any of the tales games. The game also really lacks arts and Mystic arts which some of are even DLC locked.
The mystic arts are somehow almost as lazy as the ones in Xillia 2 and they are more often a waste to use since you need BG for fusing. Massive step down from Overlimit or comboing into them like in Graces.
