Because unlike in the first game, the active parry frames in DS2 don't occur at the very start of the animation.
This graph is outdated but you should get the idea.

Although the tracking is annoying. It reaches ridiculous levels on some enemies, like the salamanders.

Are you bad at parrying or are you saying that parrying is bad? It's really not that hard to learn the certain times to parry. Once you have the timings down for certain moves, then you just need to analyze your enemy's playstyle. However, what I think is an equally important factor in being able to parry, is being able to do it discreetly.

Most people would think to use shields/items that are designed for parrying, or relatively easy to parry with; Buckler, Monastery Scimitar, Parrying Dagger, etc..

However, unless the enemy is too stupid to analyze that this person wants to parry with these items; it will be hard to pull one off. They will play more defensively and use attacks that aren't parriable.

I learned the timings of roll attacks on a variety of common weapons with the Rose Shield. People barely ever suspect for someone to actually try to parry with the damn thing, being that it's mainly used for it's Stamina Regen effect.

One last thing about parrying,
git gud
>>
>>321384687
Every other action in the game comes out in a reasonable time, they just put a retarded buffer on the roll to account for running instead of putting the run on L3.

It wouldn't be as bad as it was, if you couldn't cancel the parrying animation. I don't even mind it having no wind-up frames.
>>
>>321381689
Parrying is pretty much the ONLY thing that B-Team got right though. It's much better than DaS and arguably better than BB as well.
>>
>>321386179
b team got alot right, such as weapon variety, tracking, a bunch of small upgrades too the gameplay in general. its why miyazaki said it was worthy of the title souls, because it was a good game.
>>
>>321383592
Yes?

Oh looks SL meta is now 150 instead of 120, such difference. Its only annoying early on in a given playthrough.

Rolling in bloodborne is fucking DWGR tier broken and costs almost no stamina.

>>321386179
A lot of the gameplay changes were very nice, the problem was the areas since apparently major production issues meant they had to make major changes to the game without being able to delay it at all. Which lead to a rushed product. Kinda like the last half of DS1, looking at you Lost Izalith. This is especially evident in the difference in quality between the main game and the DLC areas, the DLC areas are fucking great.
>>
>>321386565

>>
>>321386680
>Shulva with the area that reduces your movement speed filled with dragons with high aggro range
But both of those are false. Thin layer of water is there just cosmetic, and the dragon asses with mouths have pretty small aggro radius.
>All of Iron King with mobs upon mobs of enemies thrown at you in every area
Okay, that one is the worst. And I think they even made it worse in SotFS. I don't remember the DLC in vanilla having that much twop.
>Frigid Outskirts
Actually is not as bad as most people think.
DON'T summon. If you do, the reindeers get a tremendous buff to their defense AND poise.

Why are the animations awful?
Why does every enemy never stop attacking?
Why is my swing speed so slow?
Why does every encounter end up being against multiple enemies at once?
Why does every enemy have a counter to strafing around them and attack them from behind?
Why is every boss so boring and unmemorable?
Why are there so many stats?

I'm going back to DaS 1. This game is fucking garbage.

Depends on you attunement.
Generall, the 'soft-cap' hits in when your ATT plus three times your ADP reaches 120, giving you 110 agility (13 I-frames in a roll).

Use the wiki if you want to calculate all that shit yourself

You want 105 Agility which you can get from both attunement and adaptability.

>Why are the animations awful?
They're not.

>Why does every enemy never stop attacking?
Why should they stop?

>Why is my swing speed so slow?
Stop using a slow weapon.

>Why does every encounter end up being against multiple enemies at once?
What's wrong with that?

>Why does every enemy have a counter to strafing around them and attack them from behind?
Because the game was too easy when all you had to do was strafe left and backstab to win.

>Why is every boss so boring and unmemorable?
They're not.

>Why are there so many stats?
There's 1 more stat than Dark Souls and one less useless stat. It's not that hard.
>>
>>321386421
I'm pretty sure he did say that.

But it doesn't mean anything, a dev (especially a high-up/CEO like he is) can't talk negatively about a game, Namco would be very unhappy. He couldn't say "no it's not worthy of being called a Souls game" because Namco would say he was sabotaging thier sales. Plus feelings of not wanting to insult his coworkers.

The only time stuff like this comes out is when they are talking about a specific thing that has been improved in the next game (EG: "we know X mechanic wasn't liked, and we have made it good in the sequel, pre order now!), many years later when the game isn't relevant anymore (EG devs of ps1 games saying how they were rushed and forced into certain things), although NDA's are written to last for all of time and across the entire universe, so it's not a given.

Or when dev/publisher relations have completly broken down and they go on a Twitter rampage.
>>
>>321390424
Can't you parry jump attacks in DS2? I've actually never tested. But I know for a fact that you can parry them in DS1. I spent way more time playing the original game.

Not that guy but animations for non-DLC weapons are pretty bad compared to DeS, DaS, and BB. And most weapons are slower
>>
>>321395137
No one defends ds2 on /v/ but me.
>>
>>321386179
No, it isn't, at all. It's incredibly slow and the animations do not in any way reflect the active parry frames.
>>
>>321395295
>animations
>are bad
What did he mean by this?

The sheer variety of the weapons in DS2 alone is a huge pro.

What I really didn't like about attack animations in the sequel is that you can follow R1 with R2 but not the other way around.
In DS1 you could chain them however you want, if your stamina allows.

>>
>>321395519
>The sheer variety of the weapons in DS2 alone is a huge pro.
Yeah I liked the variety, but the animations were bad. Only some special attacks were well-animated. Most looked lame and lacked weight or impact to them. That doesn't apply to all weapons but it applies to more than DS1, in which the only really bad animations were the UGS ones.

Take the dagger for example, you're just sort of flicking it in front of your face a little bit and it's even at this weird awkward upward angle that makes it impossible to hit anything an inch shorter than you unless you unlock and aim the camera straight down. Plus most weapons have a far more significant wind-up on their swings that just makes it feel like you're playing some wimpy fuck.
>>
Did parrying also suffer from the inexcusable bullshit that is tying game mechanics to FPS?
>>
>>321395873
The parry window didn't, but you lose more durability for parrying than you would at 30 FPS.
>>
>>321395946
>durability
Anyone else feels like DS games would be better if the item durability mechanic was removed altogether?
>>
>>321395724

DaS2 is legitimately more fun than DaS1
Thing is, with DaS2 all the areas are around the same quality wise (decent but not great), while DaS1 first half the areas where great and second half the areas where shit.

>>
Dodging and parrying is seriously hard this game. Even after playing the shit out of DaS1 and BB I can't get the timing right.
I quite like it.
>>
>>321396923

I feel pretty much the same way.

Dark Souls 1 was awesome until it was time to collect the 4 lord souls. The game took a massive drop in quality and fun at that point. I usually only replay to this point.

Dark Souls 2 is the opposite for me. The first beginning is meh and annoying, but it just gets better as I keep going.
>>
>>321400104

Your invincible frames are tied to your stats in Dark Souls 2. It's one of the reasons a lot of people hate it. Raising your adaptability raises your invincible frames. But even with max adaptability you'll never have as many invincible frames as in DS1.
>>
>>321401470
>But even with max adaptability you'll never have as many invincible frames as in DS1.
wrong
In Dark Souls you have 12 iframes with fast roll, 14 with ninja roll
In Dark Souls 2 99 AGL gives you 12 iframes (which is 24 adp), and at 116 AGL you get the max 16 iframes (needing 99 adp)
Additionally, Attunement also raises your agility but not as much.
