I found both P3/p4 dungeons very bare and boring, but I really loved P3 how it was like a constant incline.
I personally love that shit, its like Diablo 1, where the entire game took place in 1 area essentially, just depended how far down the stairs you go, like the same but you go up.
Really easy to see why someone would dislike it. The dungeons are 0 skill and just monster fights.
I think its the best because of just the general story/music/presetation/narration.
Its OST is fucking unreal. NO ONE fucking does like Jazzy+Hiphop, especially Japan.

Easily best in the franchise. I appreciate the gameplay improvements on P4 but I didn't really care much for it's plot or characters. The story just felt really inconsequential when compared to the previous entry.

Yeah, im OP and I played P4 first, then P4 Golden, then P3FES.
While I think P4 has some phenomenal moments(going into fucking Nanakos heaven is pretty ballsy and legit)
P3 just blew me away. It was a downgrade from the gameplay, and the party AI is retarded, but holy fuck does P3 have a way better story, cast, and narrative.
Its so fucking mature and I hate saying that because I sound like some pretentious faggot, but its legit mature.
Its a huge jump from P4 SL to P3 SL, most P3 SL ended being serious and depressining but very real.
P4 SL started off strong, but ended mostly in cliche.
It was good, not even close to my favorite JRPG but enjoyable enough of the time. Battle system was very basic and dragged over way too many floors, story didn't happen until 3/4s of the way through the game and even then it was pretty lame, characters were good, very Tales of the Abyss with the lack of cohesion, but they were held back by the plot. Great atmosphere, excellent music.

Yes. Minato's tie-in with the story was great. Unlike Yu he wasn't just a pure wish fulfilment character; dude had problems. He was standoffish and weird, but he was thrust into a situation where he was forced to overcome that because some jew in an elevator told him he needed to make friends in order to not die. It was hard on him, physically and mentally, hence his exhaustion system and tendency to fall ill. Then it turns out he's an emo cunt because he forcibly had death incarnate shoved into his brain as a child, and it lived in there for roughly a decade. If that doesn't justify making someone into an edgelord mallrat nothing does.

The only real problem P3 has is that it doesn't have the best bro. That award goes to innocent sin. Everything else is super good though.
P3's soundtrack is also the best due to the fact that it CONSISTENTLY has good music. There are better singular tracks in other Persona games, like Pandora's Battle and Awakening Legend from P1 and any song that uses the opening leitmotifs in both P2s; but as a whole, P3 is the only one that gets it right every time.

But P3 really sucked me in. I think its music and aesthetic did most of the work, another anon said it best. Its OST is perfect through and through while staying unique.
I havent heard such a great soundtrack from Japan using western music since fucking Cowboy Bebop.

I've only played SJ, Nocturne, Persona 1 and SMTIV, but they were all pretty simplistic. Stunlock opponent with elemental weaknesses, or in SJ it was just 'kill them with group attacks via elemental weaknesses before they get a turn"
Obviously other rpgs have elemental weaknesses too, but something like, say, Final Fantasy V has way, way more options and variety in its combat IMO

Random encounters, yes, it doesn't get too complicated. But the appeal of FF, especially V, is the job system. You have 20+ unique jobs that you can mix and match together to come up with some cool stuff. And the jobs themselves are really varied. Classes whose attacks differ based on what terrain you're standing, to classes that steal skills from enemies
So while they're not all that hard, it's the variety and amount of personalization that makes them fun. SMT games have the monster collecting thing, but I'd say the differences between demons isn't as interesting or quite as varied. I ended up with a lot of demons that had very, very similar skillsets with different resistances for whatever enemy type was prevalent in the area. So they ended up not feeling all that different
