Hardware limitation and different game conception.
Try harder.
>>
>>321353926
Nobody has ever claimed the first. 80s and early 90s games were hard because they were designed to eat your money and home ports were designed to sell guides/magazines like you said. It is BECAUSE of those things that kids back then were le ebin hardcore or in other words had backbone when it came to gaming.
>>
>>321354156
I finished La Mulana without a guide.
I don't know why everyone pretends it's hard or bullshitty.
>>
>>321354156
Translation is the problem, not the game itself.

Its translation to english makes solving some shit nearly impossible because of wording.

>games were harder to increase the difficulty
>implying this is a bad thing
Better than now where you pay 60 dollars for a game, play it for a day then have that "oh" moment where you realize it's just the same easy shit over and over again.
>>
>>321354340
It's not even that hard. It just has a hard game reputation sort of like Dark Souls nowadays.

I mean it never sends you back to the beginning of the game and everything in it can be overcome with practice instead of there being rng bullshit killing you all the time.
>>
>>321354287
Are you retarded? There are literally parts that force you to completely take every step in the game inch by inch
>>
There is a ton of really easy 90s games though in all genres.

Might & Magic from 3 onwards was basically turn-based TES where you open locks to get literally 1 million gold and the only time you don't simply press "Attack" is when you shoot something from afar
>>
>>321354439
This. Most games now are theme park rides you can finish just by bothering to play. Not everything though unlike some of /v/ wants you to think.
>>
>>321354614
All puzzles are pretty damn obvious unless you're not retarded.

I guess that explains why you think it was so easy

Extremely shit argument since you brought in cost.

Right now games are at the cheapest they have been historically.

A lot of NES-N64 games were $60+ and ass. Especially new.

Right now the only $60 games are AAA, and we have much better indication on how good they will be.

As shit as the industry became, this is one of the few things thats improved drastically.

HA! HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA! HOOOOOOOOOLY SHIT!
>>
>>321354935
Every new game is 60 dollars though? Actually I think PS4 games are $69.99.

I mean some rare low budget games can be like $40 but those are way less common than non-AAA in general.
>>
>>321353926
Hello underage. Enjoying Undertale?
>>
>>321355321
Did you even read my post? Practically nobody has claimed 80s/90s games were hard because the gamers were "hc". It has always been the other way around. People who grew up with NES games are no strangers to challenge right from their childhood so they generally are better at games than most kids nowadays.
>>
>>321355383
>Every new game is 60 dollars though?

Yeah which is still cheaper than most games 20+ years ago. Though that anon is wrong the cheapest was probably during six gen.
>>
why was the picture deleted? Is that frog not allowed here anymore?

im that anon.

if 6gen is PS2/GC you are right, that was golden.

>>321355383
Yeah but EVERY game was 60+ back then. Only $60 games are new AAA.
>>
Old games were hard because if you beat them without dying they last like 2 hours or less.

Seriously, go compare the length of glitch-free speedruns of old games vs new games.

Super Mario Bros 100%: 20 minutes
Super Mario World 100%: An hour and 20 minutes.
Super Mario 64 100%: An hour 45 minutes.

MGSV: 2 hours 50 minutes
Black Ops 3: 3 hours 15 minutes
Ass Creed 4: 6 hours
>>
>>321357660
old games had less cutscenes tho, less pauses, less menus.
>>
>>321357778
Speed runners skip cutscenes.
>>
>>321357660
>>321357778
Any % runs are even worse.

Super Mario Bros: 5 minutes
GTAV: 3 hours 30 minute
