Bethesda has been making the same type of RPGs on a slight downward curve since about Morrowind. Despite the fact that Bloodborne and Souls games have better combat systems and TW3 has vastly superior presentation, the crazy Bethesda sandbox game where you max Sneak and chortle as you knife people from behind will always appeal to people who want to have fun regardless of its overall quality.

I mean, compared Fallout 3 to Fallout 4. It's not like the games were clones of each other. 4 is MASSIVELY different compared to 3. The only thing that stays the same between Bethesda titles in the design concept of everything being a dungeon crawler but there is no stagnation to speak of

Bethesda marketing is on another level. You have to keep in mind while Fallout wasn't exactly known the TES series was probably the most popular western RPG franchise around 2008. I doubt Fallout 3 would have gotten nearly as much traction as it has if it was developed by a different company.

Bethesda just opened a sister studio with all that money. You can bet your ass they just got the greenlight to try and develop fallout and elder scrolls at the same time and will have more dev time as a result (unless theyre just going for yearly releases, which is probable)
Or maybe its to free up the main studio for passion projects- but more money is almost always a good thing.
