Resident Evil HD REMASTER for the only proper survival horror game in the series and 4 for one of the best third person shooters ever made.

Fuck off, kid. 4 killed it. Ammo everywhere, action movie, le edgy mysterious rival from his past, and the lamest final "boss" in the whole series. It was fun when it came out, but it was easy as fuck and killed any bit survival and any bit of horror left in the games.
It always makes me laugh when people pretend 4 was some thing that just suddenly happened and ruined the series and not the logical conclusion of shifts that were gradually happening as early as 2.

You can run practically the entire game with the knife. By the 2nd half this is what everyone should be doing considering the whole 2nd half is back tracking then back tracking again with a time limit
The bomb-defusing minigame in 2 is fun but never seems to get mentioned. Four different characters with different item loadouts and randomized item locations. It reuses areas from the base game without the convoluted puzzles/keys so you can either rush toward the end or take risks by trying to get extra ammo/weapons in side areas.
Reminder 2 a best. Claire a best.

also you have to manage that powder and decide what type of ammo you want, if you make handgun bullets or shotgun shells several times you can get EX ammo, but you won't necessarily be able make magnum ammo.
in 4 enemies that don't even use guns just poop out ammo when they die. hell, more often than not I sold a few boxes of ammo every time i found a merchant.

I've always hated Revelations. I remember picking up the first Revelations game when it came out and they gave you that scanny gun that would allow you to find weapon parts and other important shit. So every fucking room in that game I'd run around mashing "A" to find ammo and whatnot, then do a second run around with the stupid scanny gun.

The thing about RE3 though is that it would be easy enough without gunpowder at all because you still find plenty of ammo lying around. Gundpowder is basically an entirely free set of extra ammo of your choosing, and usually results in 100+ free grenade launcher rounds that you blow through the game with. There's really no challenge or ammo management to be found in RE3. The game was never applauded for its difficulty.
Ammo management isn't an issue in any RE when you know how to play, so it's hard to imagine someone familiar with the series at all complaining about it not being an issue in one specific game when it's never been an issue in any of them.

RE3 was an experimental entry into the series and as we can see the devs didn't include a lot of gameplay mechanics into later titles. I liked that they tried to add to the gameplay even if they decided that those things ended up too powerful.

RE4 is basically the godfather of the modern TPS game. All modern TPS games can trace their roots back to it.
RE2 is one of my favourite games of all time and even though I love RE4, I'm praying to Jesus that Capcom doesn't fuck it up by making its remake play like RE4 with over the shoulder aiming and shit. As long as it's just like REmake, we'll be golden, along with all other content spread over the different ports of the original game
