What are the best space-faring games, /v/? Doesn't matter if it's about space combat, exploration or just adventures in space. I tried getting into Elite Dangerous but it just feels a bit empty without being able to visit planets or character interaction. Are there any good space opera-esque RPGs? I've tried KOTOR, Mass Effect, Star Ocean and a couple of others but they've not really been quite what I was looking for.

No planet visits or character interaction but have you played Nexus Jupiter Incident? It's a pretty good linear story driven space tactics.

Manages to look pretty too considering the age, though I suppose that's kinda the result of being able to use a single image as a background per level.
>>
>>321280150
Honestly, I hadn't even heard of that one before. Thank you, I'll look into it.

>>321280215
Certainly nothing without a continuation. Season 4 actually when?

Prospector
Aurora

Mother fucking Sekai no Senki, my man. A video game version of that series or any "space opera" for that matter seems impossible.

Take a closer look at asteroids in the distance, it's fucking disgusting.
All the ship models and effects look great though, I agree.

I think it'd be possible, but it depends on where you put the focus. If you made it an RPG with slightly restricted space-faring, it'd be totally doable. A full-scale open-world game where you can explore planets and have lots of character focus and strong story? That sounds extremely demanding, at least if we're talking about making it with the demands of current gen performance.

Check out Freelancer, OP. Pretty old game that I think you'll get some enjoyment out of.

I guess having few models on screen allowed them to be more detailed too. I was very surprised when the game ran fine enough on a shitty netbook.

Might as well suggest Star Wolves, although expanded story mod is highly recommended (especially to understand plot of the sequel, made by modders-hired-by-publisher) but only available in russian.
You control a group of mercenaries with small base ship and up to 6 deployable fighters piloted by individual characters.

Is that the russian Homeworld clone?

Evochron Mercenary is a much much much more functional game than Elite Dangerous. If you can get over the lack of fancy particle effects its a sweet game, highly recommended if you have a good flight stick.

>cruising 100m above a planet to mine it
>disengage active newtonian field generator
>drifting at 7000km/s spinning freely maintaining my 100m distance from the planet by speed and gravity

The best

My friend showed me that one. It looks pretty neat, but I think the rocket design stuff is too in-depth for me.

Is this going to be any good? Or is it doomed to fuck up?
>>
>>321281629
Not at all. Well it is Russian but if anything it's mechcommander 2 in space.
No resource gathering and no production, just looting and trading.

I know of two Homeworld clones - Haegemonia and ORB, no idea if one of those is russian.

Of course it will be fucking disaster. Either it wont have 1/10 of the promised features or it will be dumbed down to incredible extent.

Read some tutorials or watch Scott Manley and you will get it in no time.

Starsector just got updated to 0.7.1 making it even more like Mount and blade in space. You should check it out if you don't mind gorgeous pixel graphics. There's also alot of mods that made the jump over so there's about twice the content modded vs vanilla.

Seconding Space Rangers 2. It's not a space opera, but it's a very unique game nevertheless. Main part is turn-based, and there are also parts that are rts and text adventures.

Rebel galaxy is pretty fun. Nothing deep and more arcade like than simulation but fun indeed.

Holy shit, I played that. I think I even have the box lying around somewhere. Haven't heard it mentioned on the internet anywhere, ever.

My favorite will always be The Last Federation.
You are a fucking space hydra, the only one left in the universe. You have to use your ridiculous space hydra brain to control the universe either for revenge or for the betterment of the universe or for both.
Plus it's got turn based bullet hell space combat which I think is amazing.
