It's because the majority of the FE main characters use swords and the main characters are the only ones with even a slight chance of getting in. Now the problem is that the lords that DON'T use swords are from games that are too old to make them a choice.
The only way you're getting a FE character that doesn't use a sword is if a FE game comes out during Smash 5's development and IS decided to get off of their sword boner.

Honestly, this. This is why they should have just cut him entirely and given his moves to Lucina, or stuck with leaving her as an alt. Nobody plays Marth because they like the character, they just like him for his playstyle. Why not replace him with a more relevant character who is actually popular because of her character if she's just going to have the exact same moves, right down to her weight, speed, and damage. The only difference is the lack of a tipper but the only reason they took that from her was because thy decided to give her her own slot.

Even though I'm a FEfag I agree that there are far too many representatives. However, it's important to note that unlike a lot of the other Nintendo franchises, Fire Emblem is a very character-focused series. Big titles like Mario and Zelda don't have brand new leads in every game. Hell, Rosalina and Bowser Jr. were stretches.
It's apparent at this point that the interest in Fire Emblem is there. #FE looks ok but it's doing a poor job of representing the entire franchise. I fully expect there to be a big FE spinoff like a Musou in the next 5 years.

Both Robin and Corrin have their female counterpart as an alt costume. Now I know Lucina is a different character than Marth in game, but their almost the same character, probably more so than Olimar and Alph. The fact that the only difference in her fighting style is the hitbox of her sword, doesn't make it better.
