Is it me or did the steam machines the so called killer of consoles fail
Where did you get that assumption from?
And who said they would be "console killers?" Or do well at all?

i haver never seen a worse launch of a console and yes its a console, its marketed as such.
Valve should have released their own model, something along the lines of a 950/I5 4460

Nobody relevant called it the console killer. And whenever if it's a fail or not is arguable but it does have a very niche market.
i think valve knew going in steam machines wouldn't sell well at all. im not sure they care considering they have giant cash cows in csgo, dota 2, and steam
Trade holds failed

Zero advertising. Game commercials advertise that the game is on Steam but never mention that a Steam Machine exists.

They haven't failed, they've barely started and the technology to entice game devs to the platform are still not all in place.
They keep picking up support with a fair number of the previously announced games like Saint's Row 4 and Divinity: Original Sin launching this week. Plus its not too long since the surprise announcement that Steam Machines and Linux would be getting Street Fighter 5 showing that Japanese companies are starting to take a real interest in them.
