Really, the only thing keeping me playing by the time I stopped was Mann Up. A Steam group I used to be in had 6-8 other people (out of about 200 at the time) and at one point in time we were playing MU almost every weekend. Eventually, that slowed down, and then half the regulars left the group and broke contact with me, so I just stopped playing TF2.

Here's my opinion about TF2 at the moment.

Shits pretty good right now. The focus on balance has been improving the game greatly.

Now here's where it gets iffy. Though I'm totally for the balancing of weapons. There has been changes that make me see this slippery slope over the horizon. One where the fun attributes of unlocks are scrapped to balance the game because balancing around unique and different mechanics is too hard.

I'm afraid of a future where the weapons of a slot all kind of blend together and the game becomes less fun and varied because of it. This totally isn't the case at the moment and honestly it's a worst case scenario. But I just feel a bit uneasy about the direction the game could go in if Valve panders to players like B4nny.

I know the old joke about playing TF2 in this day and age. But I really do like the game, even today. I just want to keep it fun.

The unlocks we've been getting over the years have been dogshit and completely uninspired. A 12 year old could come up with more creative weapon ideas than valve.

Just look at heavy and engineer. 8 years later and engineer still only has one new building and it's just a smaller sentry. Heavy's playstyle hasn't changed at all, still same ol point in direction of enemy and wait for them to die.

I can see your point of view. But personally I think that we've gotten lots of unlocks that make for fun alternative playstyles. Probably not to the extent you are looking for though.

Double donking as Demo
Jumping around as medic
The sandman + guillotine combo on Scout
The new big earner that give Spy a speed boost whenever he kills someone.

I really like weapons like that.

Double donking is a big fuck you on the recieving end.
Pyro? Fuck you it can't be reflected.
Heavy? Get knocked a mile away and have to walk through choke again
Medic? Take a 140 double donk and crater

The same goes for a lot of those weapons.

Sandman limiting all your movement and keeping you from defending yourself. A universally hated weapon by anyone who isn't F2P and played when it first came out.

Quick fix getting med out of situations where he should have died. So if you tried to bomb him his pocket can instantly jump away and take him to safety and you just died for nothing

There's no reason why a weapon can't be fun for both the person using it and the enemy. That should be a fundamental rule for all weapon designs.

Problem is this way of playing heavy is shit
Heavy is the slowest class in the game so melle weapons aren't often a good way of killing people
and even then heavy lacks the resistance that makes this syle of play viable like the demokinght
Valve could fix this by removing the extra damage from the Buffalo steak sandvich entirely as the lack of ranged weapons is already enough of a disadvantage

The increased fragility of the scout makes up for the ambush potential the sandman gives him.

The whole point of bombing is to drop the med before they can react. If you let them jump out that's on you.

All the weapons you mentioned have fair cons for the players using them. You're just thinking about all the times they've killed you rather then all the times those people have died because they chose those weapons.

I don't have a problem with the loose cannon nerf. It's still viable for me.

I should also mention Airblast got nerfed in the exact way it should have been. You can now air strafe if a pyro tries to keep you in the air with repeated airblasts

The way I see it the loose cannon was always inferior to stock unless you have the skill to get reliable double donks. The way I see it if a player has the skill they deserve to reap the rewards of a weapon.

Except you don't need any skill to outperform with stock. It's a bigger, faster, can't be reflected, projectile. Its easy to donk if you just always stay at the max range. It also want skill indexed at close range being heavily tied to latency and unpredictable.

Overheal ubercharge penalty reduced from -66% to -33%. Regular charge rate increased to 67%. The 10% regen was replaced with increased charge from absorbing the correct damage. In combat it charges super fast, I was able to pop multiple charges at once and still get charges back quickly. I'd honestly argue in combat it's faster than pre gun mettle.

Projectile speed doesn't matter to reflects idiots. The timer is the problem it just blows up the pyros face. It also doesn't mini crit properly like other projectiles and fires faster than airblast.

Didn't play TF2 in a while, but I just read the comments, about the Airblast nerf; about you can actually strafe in the air, like some sort of flying Soldier or Demo.
I don't really think airblast should get nerfed, since I'm a stock flamethrower Pyro; but now I just remenber all those Degreaser + Flare gun (Or even worse; Degreaser + Reserve Shooter); I still don't like that nerf, but I understand why it got nerfed.

Anyone got good practice maps for aiming? My aim is ass which makes it hard for me to kill people with hitscan weapons. I've gotten better at it then how I was before but I still make enough mistakes to get killed over it. I mostly play solider as a result but I want to branch out into other classes because at this point my soldier has about 300 hours and the next highest one is at 70.

Don't mention tr_walkway since the ai movement for moving side to side/back to front is so predictable even when randomized (Not to mention the Scout bots dont even double jump which makes practicing against them useless for real combat situations)

What are a pyro or heavys options? Demo can do 140 damage at the range where they do almost no damage, pyro can't punish with reflects and heavy can't chase because of knockback. Please explain to me how would you deal with him as either class. You are saying a demo deserves to shit on them both just because he's using the loose cannon.

No, turtling was incredibly effective, just not fun. If you're boxed into a corner with your Sentry and a Spy can't backstab you or pick you off, nothing stops you. What the Sapper-disabling does is allow a Spy to at least have some time to attack the Engy before he hits off the Sapper and the Spy is blown to smithereens. Yes turtling is now shittier, but it's also balanced.

I hope they revert the invuln phase now because phlog is by far the best.

Stock flamethrower is the better
MAYBE Degreaser + Shotgun against Demoknights and GrenadeKnights
Back Burner for ambushing fatties and ambushing the enemy cart

Having crits is one thing and it's totally fine but being able to control and thus predict exactly when you're gonna sprew them, then using that knoweldge to obliterate anything you approach is fuckin dumb.

The invuln literally only comes into play against shitters. If you see it, and you're a class with the same speed unit, pepper them from far away, if you're faster, walk back. If you can juggle them, do that. if you're a heavy literally stand at distance and destroy them. Only bad players can't deal with phlog tards. Ps-Them taunting around a corner is very easily hearable and they can still be melted within seconds of coming into contact when they only have 175 health. Even buffed pyros aren't scary, especially since demos and soldiers slay them with explosive knockback.

If you're in an open space large enough to run backwards far enough to begin spinning the gun and then take them out.

As a fat slow high value target they go directly for me and maybe one in ten times I can wipe them out without any damage to myself at all.

Two days ago when their invuln phase was (just a breath of a second) longer I had much more difficulty gauging the exact distance I needed to be and believe me I was fucking pissed when the phlog catapulted pyro from the literal worst freest class for me to obliterate to something I had to watch the fuck out for.

I'm still pretty pissed that valve put in such a huge check against heavy when he's already instantly wiped out by snipers.

I omitted spies because 95% of them are HILARIOUSLY predictable with even just a couple hundred hours of gameplay let alone the thousands I've put in. I just imagine when it would be most inconvenient for me to be stabbed, I turn around and then there's a disguised spy running directly at my face. It's the funniest shit because they don't know how to react when their easy kill turns the tables.

The only counter is gut-wrenchingly stupid allies that behave suspiciously or like an enemy spy.

Well yeah pubs are fucking flaming autism anyway. Matchmaking should add some sort of weapon bans anyway. And after refining there is definitely going to be class locks, especially when valve is getting so much input on the subject.
