It also has detailed lore. Everything from the races, the the tech, to the settings have established back stories that are both brought up in the dialog and further detailed in the in game codex. Thus, Mass Effect is an RPG by the definition of the picture.

Sure, but it was a very bad rpg. No matter what you had chosen, things would go mostly unaltered, except for one or two dialogs. The exceptions were few are you can think about all of them on the top of your head.

I'm okay with breaking down "RPG" into more popularized terms if it would make it easier for me to search for similar games based off of genre and style. JRPG, Turn-Based, cRPG and the like are nice, but it'd be nice to have something simpler I guess.
