Part of the game is making fights look tough so people don't think you're in league with the villains/turn against you and the hero association
New Vegas lets you become fucking brutal with melee. I got a perk that gave me a chance to knock down enemies on each hit, and it's powerful enough that as long as I can get in a few punches, most enemies can't take me one-on-one. The only shit that kills me is stuff that does a ton of damage all at once, or swarms.
Combine that with the immunity to poison from OWB and I don't afraid of any cazadores.
