There are Exo-Suits, which are close enough I guess, alternatively the 6th Class could be MECs. Not sure about Gene Mods though, would make sense for them to be in.

Floaters became Archons and have a manly build. They go berserker on people if they so much as break a nail.

I do like how they've gone "Right, we can have the same enemies... or we can show the aliens have progressed by being on earth, they're familiar, but not the exact same". Lots of companies would have just gone "meh, re-use the old enemies and throw in 2 new ones to pretend we care".

If Fraxis hadn't jumped on paid DLC bullshit and those last two games they released weren' craptastic, I would have put them quite high in my broveloper list.

Shame.

But, I'm looking forward to XCOM2. It's a shame the only other game I was looking forward to at the start of next year, Dude Sex: Manhood Divided was delayed till August.

I know they are common as fuck in XCOM1 but i'ts not that far to assume that they become rarer with the gene therapy they've been put through. I mean the etherials did say everything they have tried so far was a miss and humans seem to be the best race to abuse. So i wouldn't think it'd be unreasonable for them to ditch sects are foot soldiers and replace them with the ADVENT troopers and have the bigger sects are more of an elite type thing. Probably not though.

But i do feel early game they will be rare as the aliens in general will be rare, that's enough for me.

I imagine they are holding a few good treats back. They have shown a lot of the mechanics and features so far though. Already said no to MECs though. Since the canon is that the aliens kick XCOMs ass before they even researched plasma weapons. Maybe there'll be an expansion that will be like EW, but with Meld technologies (Gene Mods and M.E.C.s) being used as something of a necessary evil. Plus hoping for doing some collaborator elimination mechanic where you target particular human scumbags that are working for the aliens and ADVENT and you execute them ala: Polish Country Army style how they did with Germans and Russians during WWII and after it.

Not from a zombie, from an immobile cocoon. I'd say it's not really clear if that makes things harder or easier.
Also, they reduced the lids' health, and they weren't all that durable to begin with.
What's also a big change, though, is the way their infection works. Their attacks cause a poison effect, and anyone who dies while poisoned, for any reason, turns into a cocoon.

It is entirely possible to lose a campaign and not find out until a few months later that you've been fighting a losing battle.

Get satellites up as fast as humanly possible. Satellites and lasers are your number one and two priorities.

You don't have to assault the ayylien base as soon as you get the mission. It's a good idea to hold off for a while until your rape-ball is rolling.

Move two squares and overwatch.

Actually I think that XCOM2 has more potential than the win situation in EU/EW.

The Uber Ethereal talked at the end about something much worse lurking among the stars when you killed him.

The Ethereals goal was to make humans combine the capabilities of all the aliens they had under their control (which went horribly right because not only did XCOM beat every single darn thing, they made Meld based tech and then assaulted the Temple Ship).

XCOM2 rolls in. The genetic experiments on humans and aliens have a aim probably...yet not as good due to vichy earth and dictatorship.

I bet that at one point we'll get something like this in XCOM3 (if it's going to be announced):
- Years after ADVENT and aliens got beaten
- Humanity got on a better tech level
- Aliens are still around, but they are now 2nd class citizens and the world is cyberpunk tier of bad, but at least people don't get removed mysteriously

- XCOM enters the fray, but now they'll need much more than what they had previously...so they take in the 2nd class citizen aliens to fight them, yet old hostilities start to flare up
- Now both humans and ayys have to fight and die side-by-side against eldritch organic ayys that are removing people and replace them with meat puppets to control the large corporations and then sabotage the war effort
- Now we X-COM: Apocalypse with dimensional travelling...though XCOM2 is a spiritual X-COM: Apocalypse
- Giant Overspawn boss battle. XCOM Muton Berserker jumps in with explosives into its gaping maw and blows its head off.

It kind of sucks that with all the progressive nonsense going on with the gaming industry that there aren't more political and racial narratives being utilised through fantasy worlds and on the rare occasion they are they're always half-baked. The Tactical Layer is about the same in terms of difficulty, however the Strategic Layer is a bit of a bitch, especially the Airgame. Just Rush to Laser Cannons is my advice and then take down a bunch of Medium Raiders for Resources.

The tactical layer is great, no complaints there. Nice seeing that light cover is actually not shit.
You do get all the tools you need to deal with the harder stuff, smoke and flashbangs are great for the first few months.

I think xcg over on /vg/ has a list of ini changes to make the strategic game less painful.

On the other hand, taking down the month 1 landed abductor with 30 ayyys onboard feels great.

Also thought about racial relations and espionage as a game mechanic.

The racial relations would measure how much human and alien operatives hate/like each other and the more you send out your soldiers in human/alien teams the more they'll start tolerating each other (albeit the whole tolerance thing would go slooowly and researches in the academy would speed it up).

The espionage part would be about sending your operatives to infiltrate said corporations and find out who is the meat puppet or how many of them are there before the regular forces waltz in and clean up the mess.
