To answer OP, all they need to do is take atleast 1 year off. The annual release schedule brings along shitton of problems. Just doing that would improve many things.
Also, to capitalize the potential of the franchise even more, they'd need to step out of their comfort zone and give us a really damn amazing setting. Everybody is sick of Europe now.

I think the whole thing needs a revamp. Keep the story or whatever, but there are so many of these fucking games that there needs to be a real gameplay change to make it relevant. Black Flag was good in spite of the normal AC gameplay, not because of it.

I didn't mind AC3, the setting alone makes it worthwhile to play. Was a huge breath of fresh air to get a new time period and area. The naval combat was also great and at the time we hadn't seen that before.
I feel AC3 gets too much shit.

I would swap rogue with syndicate personally. Syndicate actually wasn't that bad. Not nearly as great as AC2 or Black Flag, but it was pretty decent.
Rogue also isn't bad by any means, the story is pretty great actually, but Shay is kind of annoying and the game really completely optional in all sense of the word.

I got Syndicate for free with my new SSD. I'm only a few hours in but it seems pretty good so far, it takes the few elements that Unity did right and puts them into something like AC II.

i think they just need to refine the gameplay and give it more freedom of movement. The atmosphere and premise in Syndicate where going right, while the gameplay in comparison to Unity got worse in my opinion.
The climbing and fighting in Unity was a bit slower, which gave it a better feeling and you could time your flow better, despite all the bugs that might have caused and still does.
And they should introduce a grappling hook like in FC4 or Rainbow Siex Siege, to give the game more spidey feels.
tl;dr: focus on core mechanics, climbing and stealth, loud combat should be very hard and avoided at all cost

Well, I'm gonna have to disagree with you there mate. The combat is less easy than other AC games true, but only untill the point where you unlock counter kill. Also your health regenerates in combat which made you able to take on a practically infinite amount of enemies, which makes the combat not tense and kind of boring really. Which is a shame because it does look good

I can't get over the fact that they still go for the same design every game, while having so much opportunity, because i don't want a hidden blade and a hooded assassin every game, because that kind off takes away from my immersion, especially in Syndicate.

Revelations was a case where adding more didn't help as all it's additions except the hookblade were useless.
Brotherhood literally refined every element AC2 had and added beneficial features to it like the assassin guild. Brotherhood still has the best combat in the series.
Setting is subjective but I found running around Rome more fun due to how large it was. In AC2, Florence and Venice only had so much appeal until everything started to look samey. San Gimigano and Emelia Romanga were great though.
The only thing AC2 has is plot and characters. Plus Brotherhood has multipulayer which is good.
