The wiiU despite its lackluster sales moved 1million+ units of Splatoon, that's why Nintendo has continued to give it games however it doesn't which party it gets games from, the wiiU doesn't have many games in general where as the Vita has more games, more support and more variety across genres. I own a wiiU and the vita and I have easily sunk more time into my vita than any other current console I own.
I can understand perfectly well why is wasn't a commercial success but it doesn't bother me, the thing has games, a semi decent line of first party and tons of Playstation exclusives as well as it's own exclusives that continue to trickle down one by one, the most recent being Gundam Extreme Force Vs.

Anon. Vita has kept me entertained every month with new games. It's been a constant drain of my wallet. In fact, I actually spent way more money on vita games than any other console this year.
The only people who call it a failure are those who wanted it to be a failure so they keep repeating the same lie over and over until they delude themselves into thinking it was a failure. They have to delude themselves into thinking vita has no games when it had so many. Refusing to continue making some of their first party games like inFamous(Which was going to get a Vita game) for the Vita simply because they were too expensive(Which is again their fault since they didn't advertise anything), using Borderlands 2(A game which was almost two years old at the time) as a system seller in their 2000 campaign, and letting games they paid for like CoD Declassified end up absolute garbage? Their focus on $5 indies at E3 rather than proper games?
What about them outright ignoring things like Oreshika and Freedom Wars at E3 when they were going to be released only a couple months later and instead chose to focus on that one horrendously bad looking indie roguelike game?
Sony barely did anything for the Vita once Uncharted came out and left the rest of the games it was making die an obscure death with no advertising then complained it wasn't selling. Tearaway is the perfect example of this, a game they paid for and helped develop and not a single advertisement. It even happened to it on the PS4.

At some point I was like I might as well try these weeb games then something just clicked.
Danganronpa, Corpse Party, Gravity Rush, Persona, Soul Sacrifice, Trails In The Sky, Rhythm games, Steins;Gate, Sword Art, Ys series, Akiba, Tales, Lost Dimension, Deception, etc. I already imported various rhythm games, gundam and god eater.

Even before I got into Danganronpa, my foot was only halfway in the door, I was still playing grush, freedom wars, soul sac and tetering on the edges, I still though VN's aren't real games but... then I tried them. Step by step I became a weeb or just someone who realizes these games are actually really good and engaging. If this is a wall that most western had to climb to enjoy the vita then I understand now why it's not as succesful despite having an incredible library.
I still think Sony should have marketed the device while giving far more attentions Japanese IP's from day 1 so this wouldnt have been such a big problem for users like us who saw sonys stance for the vita as a western AAA machine when it was really just like ever handheld before it, a Japanese portable game machine

At the rate of PC ports of Vita games, Vita's relevance in the weeb market is quickly waning as well.
Most recently announced were God Eater Resurrection and God Eater 2 ports and before that was Senran Kagura Shinovi Versus and Tokyo Xanadu.

Vita has a shit library unless you're a massive weeb (even better if you know Japanese, luckily I am both). Sony dropped support for it incredibly quickly but it's still getting some third party stuff and multiplatforms/ports, though it's losing the few exclusives it does have right and left to PS4 and/or PC.
WiiU has a generally mediocre library with a couple good games and planned obsolescence that would make Microsoft blush, third part support is nonexistent.
Hard to really call a winner but I think I prefer the Vita.
