There are 6 buttons in SF. Every character has at the very least 2 specials, with 3 different versions. Add to that crouching/command normals, EX specials, supers and such. There would be absolutely no way to make room for all abilities without motion inputs.

I know this is bait, but I was just thinking about this a little while ago.
It's actually pretty brilliant how fighting games use their inputs. In Smash Bros., many moves need to be prepped before they can be used, Smash attacks being the most obvious, with the prepping ability being entirely dependent on the character's ability. But in an actual fighting game, the prepping ability is based on the player's ability to press all the inputs. If the attack gets messed up or comes out too slow, that's on the player.

Wavedashing is a retarded physics glitch. It lets you move while having full access to your other moves, and Smash already has a dash where you can attack, grab, or jump. The analogue in fighting games would be sliding forward while throwing hadoukens or sonic booms. Stupid and ultimately dumbing down the game.

Special move directions purposefully add more moves to a control scheme that already had so many moves they ran out of buttons and simple direction+button inputs. The DP exists because forward+punch is already taken by other moves.

In melee, momentum carries from air-to-land, regardless of whether you are wavedashing or not. If you have horizontal speed in the air with Luigi's slippery ass and you land, you are gonna slide.

Wavedashing is straight up just the game handling momentum as it normally does. All it is is adjusting your landing momentum using the momentum from melee's directional air dodge.

Shit isn't breaking, and therefore shit ain't a glitch.
