Yes. I've replayed it a few times over the years and it's still great. Then I got the ps4 with the classics pack and was disppointed to discover that racer's revenge is a) not episode 1 racer and b) garbage.

It still a good game. Track desing is great & the sense of speed is awesome.
The only downside is the CPU is pretty bad and after you beat all the tracks, there's nothing else to do.

Recently played it. It's better than expected, but lacks much of replay value after beating all the race tracks. The PS2 sequel does have better AI, in being aggressive, but is not worth having to go through all of the circuits with everyone just to get the upgrades, while Episode 1 had it's upgrades for all it's racers.
This motherfucker...One of the biggest accomplishments I ever had in gaming was beating this guy's track.

This game was incredibly difficult. If I remember correctly you could permanently lose cups so you had to reload constantly. Not only that but this game had some hardcore rubber banding AI second only to Fzero GX.

I can't much recall rubber banding during GPs, other than certain tracks having arbitrarily harder AI, like Big Blue: Drift Highway, Mute City: Serial Gaps and Phantom Road: SLS

It was planned from the start: Lucas just couldn't find any good place to insert a pod racing scene/couldn't afford it in the 70s.

It's only bad in Ep. I because Lucas didn't properly structure the story around it and sort of haphazardly inserted the scene in: the podracing alone was successful in showing that Anakin was an ace pilot: it made him blowing up the battleship redundant.
