That's true, but I honestly still prefer his way of doing things. KHDDD was kind of a mess and flowmotion wasn't balanced. The staff that worked on the game didn't want to put it in, but Nomura pushed for it anyway because he wanted them to try it since he wanted it to be in KH3. That's something I like. Even if, outside of KH2FM, the games aren't higher than 7.5/10 for me, they try new things with the gameplay. I'd prefer it if all the games were as good as that, but I like creators who aren't afraid to fuck up.

However, I would agree that KH2FM Critical is probably the best gameplay SE has put out post merger. Maybe FFX-2? I would say the best game overall under S-E's belt is easily TWEWY, though. It's a very cohesive, focused, innovative experience where the themes and setting permeate every aspect of the game, from the music to the visuals, to multiple gameplay mechanics. Part of why I was so excited for what Tokyo Team could do with FFXV.

Very, very few people actually do. Most of them just nostalgia over the idea of playing something strategic, even though it actually always boiled down to basic optimisation and repetition with very few exceptions. Unless you're playing a game with significantly branching decision paths, like Go, it rarely matters. Almost all the strategy is in building the setup and finding and configuring the right equips, which is a fine thing on its own, but does not = good combat.
