Literally everyone who thinks Halo is/was a good fps were around the peak of their vidya loving childhood when the xbox was released. Halo was the flagship title to launch microsofts new console and boy did they market the crap out of it.

Meanwhile i was wondering what all the fuss was about having been playing far better half life mods for the previous 5 years.

Halo 1 and 2 were fun with neat weapons, enemies and vehicles. Coop was a plus too. Never played 3 and forwards though. Not really revolutionary FPSs or anything but not complete shit either.

Deus Ex had a nice setting and story but the gameplay is complete ass. It wasnt a good FPS or stealth game and the dialogue options were just for flavor most of the time.

As dated as it looks now, there haven't been many other game worlds that managed to instill such a sense of mystery and wonder in me. I used to spend hours wondering what kind of crazy lands and shit existed just beyond the borders. There were so many spots like pic related where I would just sit and wonder what their purpose was or what they were planned to be for early in the game's development.

Turns out there was supposed to be a whole other dungeon there at one point.

I play OoT nearly every two years and I've yet to lose that feeling. Hyrule was segmented but all the shortcuts between areas made it feel like one huge place; arguably moreso than modern open-world games, which often seem to include more empty outdoor areas than interesting and complex interiors. OoT has a very nice balance: wide tracts of land to convince you you're travelling great distances, and you can enter almost any building or area you see. Goes a long way towards making the world seem alive.
