This is my biggest concern. Zack worked best as an element of Cloud's past that helped develop him as a character. Part of what made him interesting is that we barely knew anything about him other than he was Cloud's friend, that he was a total bro, and that he died in a very tragic and shocking manner. I kind of feel like Crisis Core cheapened him as a character by just making him a reactionary element to his own story until the very scene where things SHOULD have been spontaneous and sudden, at which point he willingly charges to his death.

This. I was shocked how spot on Jessie, Biggs and Wedge were as ever since I started thinking about this remake over a decade ago I pictured them being unrecognizable after AC. I couldn't picture their old looks with proper proportions but they fucking nailed it.
As for Barret, I was put off by his redesign the first time I watched it but ever since I've been warming up to the new look and think it kind of "evokes" the feel I got from him in the original when I played it the first time maybe even better that the concept art did. I just hope he takes the shades off when they return back to 7th Heaven as they would interfere with his more emotional scenes with Marlene, the death of the Avalanche members and Dyne.
The thing about this remake though is that it's based off of a game that was constantly shifting art style and I think that really changes people's perception of what the characters are supposed to look like. That's why there are some people angry about it.
I mean, a lot of people might have wanted chibi models or think Cloud should be wearing something resembling the purple pyjamas he wore in the outer combat graphics but the truth is that even in the original they won't supposed to look like that.
You could tell from the battle system graphics and the fmvs where they had proper proportions that the game wanted to look more like the concept art but they were limited by the technology, so this was always the look they were going to go for and I think they've achieved with this remake thus far and while it's certainly realistic they've strayed just far enough from AC where everyone looks colourful and charming.
The other thing people ignore is the PS3 tech demo. You think when all the palaver came out about remaking the game during that time that the majority of people were expecting something more cartoony or stylized? Square would have gotten slaughtered for it. Hell, they got a taste of that reaction during the unveiling of the port.

2bh they should've done this, but also add new stuff like a remastered OST, new side quests, and an updated translation like the FF1-6 remasters.

Kek, it's the single best ability system the series has had to date. Given that the remake will further differentiate the characters' basic roles and play-styles, and hopefully give ore reason to use status effects on things other than the Zolom, there's nothing not to look forward to.

Same thing with the episode releases. If SE released it all on one disc or file, they'd have to cut corners and it's something that nobody wants. People would complain even more.
Episodic releases allows them to expand the game, and make it worthwhile for the customer to play, while they're waiting for the next episode. How is it any different from switching disc?
