It's doing well in sales and with ideas. A lot of people need to realize that ideas may seem good on paper, but unless they're properly executed, they can hinder the entire game if not a part of said game. You can't just up and decide "IM GONNA MAKE AN MMORPG", you have to see if your IP can work with the genre without making drastic changes. All in all, it's not worth the investment nor the risk. You have many other spin-offs that prove themselves to work with the IP and subject matter without making too much of a mess.

They'd make it a grindfest. One of the redeeming factors about Pokemon as a game is that they design them so that even stupid kids can complete it. So pretty much every single Pokemon is viable in-game, no matter how terrible their stats are.
Although Pokemon is a nice concept and I'd like to see them give the IP to more developers so we can get even more unique spin-offs. Conquest was nice, even if it was repetitive because you were essentially playing the same game 17 times. I'd like to see a Fire Emblem/Pokemon crossover.

Pokemon needs competition. Someting that offers a similar experience but doesn't have the same problems.
It's still selling well, which means there's no incentive to change anything. There needs to be some other game series that starts cutting into their profits. That's the only way to get them to go "okay we need to change some shit".
But then the problem arises when most of the fans of Pokemon are just fans of Pokemon. They don't think "boy, I could sure use a nice RPG where you raise monsters, oh look a new Pokemon game". They just get the Pokemon game because it's Pokemon.
So competing games are only going to do so much. Most Pokemon fans won't even give any competitor the time of day.
Basically, Pokemon is doomed to die a very slow death. We're gonna get formulaic games for the next 50 years until it stops being profitable, then they're gonna try to revamp a series that has like 100,000 monsters and a metric shitton of mechanics that no one can agree on whether they're good or bad.
Pokemon is doomed. Embrace it.
